GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  


Join our team at the Wyoming State Hospital and fulfill your passion for serving others and making a difference in your community while starting a career in state government. The city of Evanston is a small Rocky Mountain community that is a 45-minute drive from the world-famous ski slopes of Park City, Utah. Evanston's area is excellent for recreational activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.

This position provides direct recreation therapy interventions to patients in a psychiatric hospital in group and individual modalities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

 
  • Completes Recreation Therapy Assessments to develop treatment programming relevant to the interests and needs of the person served.
  • Works as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Conducts therapeutic interventions and activities which are relevant to persons served.
  • Documents information relevant to persons served.
  • Maintains therapeutic facilities and troubleshoots difficulties as they arise.
  • Follows ATRA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES: 


Preference may be given to applicants with one or more years of experience working with serious, persistent mentally ill patients.
Preference may be given to applicants with a Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a closely related field.
Preference may be given to applicants who are Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) by NCTRC.


KNOWLEDGE: 

 

  • Knowledge of group facilitation techniques and group dynamics.
  • Knowledge of Therapeutic Recreation Treatment models and Theories.
  • Assessments.
  • Treatment plan development.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Recreation Therapy)
 
Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy) with acquired knowledge at a Recreational Activities Specialist.
 
OR
 
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Recreational Activities Specialist
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
None

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • Physical ability to lift, twist, bend, pull, and push up to 50 lbs.

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • A background check, including fingerprinting, will be completed through the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, the Wyoming Department of Family Services, and the F.B.I. for every successful applicant.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions.  Drug testing will be completed on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
