Education Requirements and Experience:
Minimum of an Associate's degree in a Human Services related field required, Bachelor Degree in Social Work (BSW) or other Human Service related field is preferred, degree requirement may be waived if in the process of obtaining a degree.
Experience working in a Human Service field is preferred.
Experience working with American Indian children and their families is preferred.
Experience working with Tribal and/or District court systems is preferred. Experience in Microsoft Office/Excel applications is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 30 pounds or more and use proper body mechanics.
Be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to work within an intemal, non-smoking, work environment
Preferred Skills:
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Knowledge of the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act and the Indian Child Welfare Act is preferred.
Knowledge of Minnesota Statutes as they apply to child maltreatment or willingness to learn.
Ability to pass pre-employment drug test, criminal, ad social services background checks.
Native American preference.
Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe positions.
 
Job Description:

Reports to: Assessment Coordinator
Worksite: Child Welfare Department
Work Hours: M-F, 8:00am-4:30pm and as needed
LLBO Status: Exempt

License/Certification Requirements: Valid MN Driver's License, current insurance or be insurable.

Summary: Responsible to assist with determining if child protection issues are a concern and take appropriate action to insure child safety.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Become knowledgeable of the Leech Lake Tribal Codes relating to Child Welfare services.
Become knowledgeable of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and the surrounding counties relating to services and issues ofjurisdiction.
Become familiar with the Title IV-E Tribal/State Agreement.
Become familiar with the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Human Services programs and surrounding county social service agencies.
Work jointly with county social services in assessing child protection reports.
Respond to imminent danger situations and work with law enforcement for procession of 72 hour holds.
Respond promptly to requests from law enforcement and county social services regarding child protection issues. Work with Leech Lake Foster Care Department and law enforcement in finding suitable and safe relative placement.
Conduct investigations and family assessments to determine needs of family.
Attend court hearings, prepare court documents, and provide testimony if needed.
Meet with family and child to gather factual data to ensure family involvement in case plan.
Participate in Leech Lake Multidisciplinary Team Meetings, Leech Lake Mortality Team Meetings, and Child Protection Team Meetings hosted by the four counties surrounding Leech Lake Reservation.
Become familiar with, provide for, and advocate for client rights.
Coordinate referrals for services for licensed foster care for out of home placement needs.
Complete all steps of assessment as required in SSIS.
Aid families with case management services, as needed, established during assessment.
Complete assessment within 45 days.
Enter detailed data and case notes in a timely manner, not later than 180 days following contact.
Review intake information with screening team to determine if case should be screened in or out.
Be on call 24 hours a day, including nights, weekends, and holidays to assist law enforcement with child abuse reports and 72 hour holds as scheduled.
Complete service arrangements to authorize payments for foster care and support services.
Submit adequate and timely reports to management upon request.
Attend the Basic Social Worker Core Training series as presented by the Department of Human Services.
Maintain a respectful working relationship with colleagues, Leech Lake Reservation program employees, county Human Service staff, and other community stakeholders.
Possess excellent and caring customer service and communication skills. Meet deadlines, prioritize workload, and all other related duties as assigned.
Work effectively with minimal supervision.
Attend program activities outside normal working hours as necessary.
Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
Support and maintain sensitivity to Native American culture, lifestyles, and values.
Travel in and out of state as needed.
Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.
