HP Inc. Climate Forest Lead in Vancouver, Washington

Description:

HP is an industry leader in sustainability and has announced ambitious goals to address Climate, Human Rights, and the Digital Divide. HP is expanding our Climate Team to include a Forest Expert to work with internal and external partners to drive our Forest goals. This individual is a recognized authority and subject matter expert in Forest conservation and management methodologies and policy, and who has worked with our current NGO partners including World Wildlife Fund, Conservation International, and Arbor Day Foundation. This person will report into the Climate Director and will contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas that can help drive HP's Forest-related long-term goals and objectives.

At the Expert level, this individual will solve common and complex business issues within established guidelines and recommend appropriate alternatives. The individual will be expected to work on problems of diverse complexity and scope; act as a team or project leader by providing direction to team activities and facilitating information validation and team decision making processes. They will exercise independent judgment within generally defined policies and practices to identify and select a solution, and possess the ability to handle most unique situations, seeking advice to make decisions on complex business issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and evaluate new technologies, innovations, and develop partner relationships to assure alignment with HP's Forest strategy.

  • Leverage recognized domain expertise, business acumen, and experience to influence decisions of executive business leadership, outsourced development partners, and industry standards groups.

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including NGOs, government agencies, and other organizations, to advance forest restoration and conservation efforts and build partnerships that support these initiatives.

  • Monitor and evaluate the success of forest restoration and conservation initiatives and adjust strategies and tactics as needed.

  • Serve as the Climate Team's relationship manager with our internal and external partners.

  • Conduct research and analysis related to forest management practices, climate change mitigation, sustainability standards, and other relevant topics to inform HP's forest-related strategy and initiatives.

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and innovations related to forest restoration and conservation and evaluate their potential applications to HP's initiatives.

  • Provide regular reports and updates on HP's forest-related initiatives to executive leadership, external stakeholders, and other relevant parties.

  • Represent HP at conferences, industry events, and other forums related to forest restoration and conservation.

  • Develop internal policies, standards, and guidance for internal stakeholders to implement HP's forest strategy

  • Develop communications materials (e.g., trainings, contract language, FAQs) and respond to customer and internal inquiries.

  • Develop and manage budgets and resource allocations for forest-related initiatives.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Forestry, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Biology, Ecology, or other relevant field.

  • 10+ years of experience in forest management, conservation, or related field.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of the forest products industry, nature-based solutions, forest ecology, conservation biogeography, political ecology, and externalities including regulatory and standards developments.

  • Knowledge of global forest restoration and conservation practices, including relevant laws and regulations.

  • Experience in project management, including managing budgets, timelines, and resources.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools, including GIS, remote sensing, and statistical analysis software.

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and perform in a fast-paced, often-changing environment, self-motivated, ability to learn quickly and work nimbly and to tight deadlines.HP offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is $102,950 - $157,8 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
