Description

Shift: Part-Time, Tuesday 9am - 4:30pm, Thursday 9am - 3:30pm & Friday, 9am - 4:30pm

 

Emory Medical Laboratory's mission is to transform health and healing by providing high quality, cost-effective, innovative laboratory services which enhance patient health. We're seeking a certified Cytotechnologist II who will support Emory Healthcare’s mission of clinical care, education, and research by demonstrating the core values of excellence, caring, and integrity. This individual:

 

  • Prepares and stains cytologic material for routine procedures; evaluates examination results for validity and reports results as prescribed by standard procedures.
  • May prepare specimens for cytopathologic examination.
  • Evaluates cytologic material for carcinoma or other diagnoses and completes all daily assigned screening.
  • Reviews quality of staining and the adequacy of the specimen to support an adequate diagnosis.
  • In complex cases, evaluates all information available and determines whether analysis results should be released, repeated, or referred to a pathologist.
  • Assists the Pathologist and Radiologist on fine needle aspiration biopsy procedures and is competent in giving an adequacy assessment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in medical technology, clinical lab science or a chemical, physical or biological science.
  • Other bachelors degree will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school of cytotechnology or if science and math coursework meet requirement of certifying agency.
  • Education Exception: Bachelors degree may be waived for a Cytotechnolgist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelors degree requirement by ASCP and a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services.
  • At least two years of experience. Experience in Gynecological, Non-gynecological and FNA cytology preferred.
  • Certification as CT (ASCP) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology which meets Georgia's Department of Human Resources requirements.
