Education/experience
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; or a Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience as a subject matter expert in human resources with a focus on compensation management and talent acquisition, including supervisory experience.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing compensation programs, including job analysis, salary surveys, market benchmarking, and internal equity analysis.
  • Experience overseeing full-cycle recruitment, employee engagement, and workforce planning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Job Summary
The Director of Talent Management and Compensation serves as the University’s subject matter expert and strategic partner in designing, managing, and advancing compensation programs to attract, retain, and reward top talent. This role plays a pivotal part in aligning compensation strategies with the institution’s overall goals, working closely with leadership, managers, and HR teams to ensure competitive and equitable pay practices. The director oversees the development, administration, and maintenance of the University’s classification and compensation plans, providing expert guidance on pay structures, salary decisions, and classification actions. Key responsibilities include conducting job analyses, salary surveys, market benchmarking, and internal equity reviews to ensure that compensation programs are data-driven, compliant with regulations, and aligned with best practices.

Beyond compensation, this position provides leadership for talent management functions, including full-cycle from recruitment to termination, employee engagement and retention, and workforce planning. By implementing innovative strategies, the director ensures the University remains competitive in attracting and retaining high-performing employees in a dynamic job market.

As a strategic partner, the director oversees the Employment Team and collaborates with the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and other institutional leaders to integrate compensation and talent management strategies into broader organizational objectives. This position serves as a trusted advisor on compensation matters, contributing to organizational transformation and fostering a culture of equity, engagement, and professional growth. The director may also assume the responsibilities of the AVP in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision-making on key personnel matters.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in compensation management, market analysis, and strategic HR practices, along with exceptional analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; or a Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience.

  • Proven track record in designing, implementing, and managing compensation programs, including job analysis, salary surveys, market benchmarking, and internal equity analysis.
  • Experience overseeing full-cycle recruitment, employee engagement, and workforce planning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in HR systems (e.g., applicant tracking systems, HRIS, and compensation tools).
  • In-depth knowledge of compensation principles, salary structures, and compensation analytics, with a strong understanding of labor laws, regulations, and compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex compensation data and trends.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CCP certification or other related certification preferred
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP desirable.
  • Familiarity with higher education or non-profit compensation structures, regulations, and industry-specific standards.
