About the Job



Position Summary

This position plans, develops, implements, and manages operations for the Masonic Cancer Center, Cancer Survivor Program, and the Hematology Program in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. These two programs are conducting innovative research studies including participants through the lifespan. This position will work collaboratively with faculty leadership to facilitate growth of these research programs. This position reports directly to the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Division Administrator, but is accountable to the physician-investigators and the research team. The candidate will be designated as an Essential Employee. Essential Employees are expected to report to campus during a University State of Emergency (reduced operations or campus closure) unless specifically directed by the Department not to report or if directed by civil emergency or medical authorities not to reports for health and safety reasons. As an Essential Employee, you must report to campus even if the closure if less than 3 days.

Responsibilities

25% Plan, develop, implement, and manage operations and programs within Pediatric Cancer Survivorship and Pediatric Hematology Group.
- Collaborate with investigators, project managers, and other study staff to manage project planning operations.
- Partners with regulatory, PI and study team to ensure ethical conduct of trials
- Establish and maintains an understanding of the complex and wide portfolio of studies within group
- Accomplish department objects by supervising staff, organizing and monitoring work processes and projects

25% Manage clinical research staff by forecasting staffing needs, and managing workloads and project timelines.
- Manages workload and project assignments for coordinators including assessing workload of new and existing projects, assigning new projects and adjusting effort based on study activities
- Help staff manage deadlines and timelines to meet expectations of projects
- Ensures sufficient coverage for team has sufficient on campus coverage
- Monitor planned and unplanned staff time off to ensure sufficient coverage of effective clinical trial operations
- Acts as a back-up and support for projects and operations as required

15% Manage hiring and training of new staff and facilitate growth and success of existing team members
- Conduct interviews and hiring process for incoming staff
- Develop training documents and process for incoming team members
- Participate in the promotion and support of growth and development of staff
- Identify issues in performance when present and develop plans for re-education and quality improvement
- Coordinate with our affiliate research site in Duluth to ensure appropriate training and knowledge of team members

15% Modifies practices and procedures to improve efficiency and quality; searches for better ways to effectively achieve end results
- Contribute to SOP and process development to standardize and implement clinical research processes for Peds Hem/Onc
- Communicates with clinical teams, study teams and PIs to ensure compliance with policies, procedures and regulations

10% Advances research program management and tracking tool development
-Strategy/strategic planning: Organize work and planning (for faculty) on program scope/definition, mission/vision/values
-Development of structure and processes to streamline work identification and onboarding for trainees (med school, fellow/resident) and undergraduate students, including understanding available regulatory support
-Tracking and finding funding opportunities, NOSIs, proposals
-Explore how or if more grant and pre-proposal support can develop
-Explore how more support can develop for post-data collection; manuscript preparation
-Stay up-to-date on best practices, trends in research and research administration and network with other University and MN area research staff on their processes - professional organization involvement and continuing education

5% Development of overall clinical/research materials, website
-Overhaul/align/network with Fairview, review + revamp materials from UMN website, working with clinical staff to match and differentiate clinical care and research programs, update information, photos, write/maintain news
-Plan for tabling opportunities, in partnership with cancer care and/or peds research teams
-Write/support copy about program and faculty work for dissemination to greater population (social media, U newsletters, onc groups)

5% Expand education/research effort
-Developed reporting out/partnership with philanthropic partners and extended Hem/Onc network (clinical, Fairview)

Qualifications



Required Qualifications

* BA/BS degree in appropriate discipline and at least eight years of relevant experience or advanced degree with at least six years relevant experience
* Prior oversight of a small department or cross-disciplinary team
* Strong written and verbal communications skills
* Knowledge of quality systems requirements
* Computer knowledge and skills
* Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) certification, or equivalent (e.g. RAC) or able to obtain in first year of employment

Preferred Qualifications

* Previous experience in a clinical research or academic medicine setting.
* Proficiency with OnCore.
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
* Professional research certification (such as SOCRA or ACRP).
