The Department of Public Works provides high quality services to all of the Town of Burlington. The DPW is made up of six divisions including Administration, Buildings and Cemeteries, Central Maintenance, Engineering, Highway, and Water and Sewer. With its 65 full-time, 1 part-time, and 9 seasonal employees, the department maintains the Town’s roadway, drainage, water, sewer, street lights, traffic lights, buildings and cemetery infrastructure. In addition, the department provides daily services such as water, sanitary sewer, trash pick-up and winter maintenance operations. We are seeking a strong, strategic individual to coordinate the financial management systems for the department.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Maintain the DPW’s financial records in accordance with regulations and requirements
Track, balance, and analyze budgets and enterprise funds, grant accounts, revolving funds, and oversee reporting to ensure effective and efficient use
Administer billing and collection of Water & Sewer customer accounts
Develop, maintain, and implement policies, standard operating procedures, and employee training
Ensure proper financial management of Capital Improvement Projects
Manage and coordinate the preparation and review of grant proposals and activities associated with assigned contracts
Coordinate the preparation of the DPW annual budget, monthly water/sewer revenue analysis and other reports
Receive and resolve complaints, inquiries, and requests for information
Minimum qualifications include
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business, public administration, or related field
Minimum 5-7 years of progressively responsible municipal public works experience
Conversant and knowledgeable of DPW practices and procedures
Excellent administrative, management, organizational, communication, and customer service skills
Valid driver’s license
Advanced understanding of financial accounting software and office technology
This is a non-union position. Salary is within Grade 12, of the Administrative & Professional Compensation Plan, offering annual increases via step system. Pay range starts at $73,668 with the opportunity to advance to a max rate of $100,447. Starting rate is competitive and dependent upon experience, and includes comprehensive and generous benefits.
