About the Job



The role of the University of Minnesota Office of Human Resources (OHR) Content Strategist is to plan, create, publish, and edit content to attract job seekers to the University and serve the needs of employees, supervisors, and the human resources community. The content strategist uses a research-informed approach to content organization and structure to ensure a positive user experience, effective content integration, as well as search engine optimization. This role ensures that all content is high quality, accessible, up-to-date, and consistent with brand and style guidelines. This role may perform some back-end website design and development or have the technical knowledge to communicate effectively with those directly responsible for these functions. This is a full-time position and hybrid options are available.

The Content Strategist reports to the Director of Communications, which is part of the administrative services within the Office of Human Resources. The Office of Human Resources supports all faculty, staff, and student workers across the state and ensures that the University of Minnesota attracts and retains top talent.
Salary range for the position is $68,000-$90,657.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Website Content Strategy--60%
Lead website improvement projects for the Office of Human Resources provided by University Relations.
Provide ongoing counsel to teammates on website content strategy based on business and communications objectives, including improvements to website content.
Participate in the RFP process for OHR web development projects and facilitate web vendor evaluation and selection; consult within OHR on other RFPs regarding user Facilitate the
definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables for larger scale projects, such as search engine optimization (SEO), merging or developing other sites, etc.
Evaluate the effectiveness of current web content and strategies (e.g., gather information/data; conduct surveys; perform analysis; report findings; make recommendations).
Lead web content strategy planning and development for all sites (e.g., identify needs; define resource requirements and capacity; recommend web content strategy and structure; establish a process for review and approval of content).
Recommend improvements to communications processes to ensure consistency, accuracy, accessibility, and timeliness of content.
Facilitate content and asset creation within established project timelines.
Oversee migration of approved content to new site(s), including testing, documenting, and communicating content management processes and protocols.
Conduct regular audits of webpages.
Actively engage with the University's Office of Information Technology and participate in Drupal, Folwell, Web People, Accessibility Ambassadors, and other opportunities that support
OHR's website and digital technology initiatives.
Monitor and address issues identified through site quality assessment tools.
Project Management--40%
Define and manage project tasks and resource requirements.
Develop, implement, and track full-scale project plans.
Provide regular project progress reports to all primary project stakeholders (subject matter experts, leadership).
Coordinate and/or lead project meetings between communications, University Relations, web vendor, and/or project stakeholders as needed.
Ensure that key project milestones and metrics are being met within budget and that timelines and project goals are realistic and align with the project scope; if needed, recommend project adjustments based on shifting stakeholder needs and interests

Qualifications



Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Design, Marketing, or a related field.
Four years of professional experience in communications, publishing, design, public relations, or marketing with a significant focus on website content development.
Experience in using user experience best practices, research, website metrics, and other data to inform content strategies that support business and communications goals.
Experience working with usability professionals and implementing established usability best practices.
Experience in digital accessibility best practices for both web and mobile, plus related documents shared on the web (PDFs, video, spreadsheets, etc.).
Experience in consulting and engaging with colleagues and stakeholders to determine requirements.
Experience in planning and executing large-scale website projects and keeping stakeholders informed as well as tracking and communicating progress against timelines.
Experience in project management.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in leading website content strategy development for multiple audiences to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment.
Experience in integrating website content from separate sites and platforms to provide an integrated experience.
Experience working in a Drupal environment.
Experience in defining the user experience based on best practices, such as using design thinking, developing user personas, usability testing, etc
Experience researching and addressing back-end site issues that affect site performance.
Experience in developing content strategies that cross platforms and media (paid, earned, shared, and owned) to support content engagement.
Experience in gathering and analyzing website metrics using Google platforms (GA4, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads, etc.) and partnering with colleagues and stakeholders to develop broader measurement initiatives across paid and unpaid digital media.
Familiarity working with developers, IT departments, and other internal stakeholders and conveying important updates to internal colleagues and stakeholders.
Experience recommending tools to support web content development and assessment as well as coaching colleagues on tool usage to create engaging and useful content.
Proven ability to leverage communities of practice to build familiarity with emerging technologies in order to quickly adapt to technology changes.
