SUMMARY
The Safety Specialist position will be a hands-on, practical resource to the EHS Leader and the entire Owens Corning Portland Asphalt plant. The purpose of this position will be to act as a leader for safety, facilitate the execution of safety initiatives, and improve the safety awareness of the Asphalt plant in Portlandas well as Owens Corning Asphalt plantsacross the United States.The successful candidate willwork on a variety of safety projects, team initiatives, and EHS programs. In addition, this position will lead and support the Asphalt plant's ongoing OSHA VPP certification. In addition, it will be an expectation of this job to work with Oregon OSHA by becoming a Special Government Employee (SGE).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Developing safety leadership capabilities in our people:
Daily presence in the Asphalt plant
Conduct Contractor Safety Orientations as needed
Participate in Safety Programs' annual reviews
Help facilitate Safety Committee meetings
Continually reinforce the company's stand on safety and always recognize employee accomplishments and contributions
Work with TPM teams on issues that have EHS implementations
Coordinate and lead ongoing OSHA VPP recertification requirements
Supporting Operations/Maintenance Duties
Manage plant Action Plans and deliver on all commitments from Safety Program Corrective Actions logs and Incident reports
For any safety incidents, ensure proper investigation, root cause analysis, communication and aggressive action planning and execution to prevent future repeat incidents
Ordering Safety Supplies
Add SDSs to the Vault
Review Star Cards (Pre-Job Hazard Analysis)
Guide JHA writing for all tasks identified at the plant.
Assist with Safety related training and onboarding of new employees in the area of safety practices and programs
Attend Shift meetings, Operation Team meetings and Shift huddles to act as a resource to the plant to understand the risks and help develop procedures to eliminate or reduce the risks
Metrics
Recordable incident rate (RIR), Total Incident Rate (TIR), and Near Misses
% closure on safety incident corrective actions within 30 days
Track Hazard Risk score and the Top 5 Risk SharePoint list for the plant and assist the HRCSs in risk reduction projects.
Other Activities
Ensure blank forms, permits, etc. are stocked
Complete OR OSHA training; become SGE for OR OSHA
Attend and be a key participant in;Management of Change (MoC)
Ensure team members have the resources and training to do the job
Provide effective communications throughout the site.

The employee should hold the following abilities:
Working knowledge of health and safety compliance law
Ability to identify critical process and system needs and then implement appropriate action plans on a global basis
Ability to establish agreement and consensus with management
Must be able to work independently or in a team atmosphere with minimal direct supervision
Demonstrated the ability act as a decision maker
Has a very high attention to detail
Demonstrated the ability to multi-task
Demonstrated the ability to set priorities and escalate issues in a timely manner
Demonstrated ability to direct/influence 3rd parties (vendors)
Able to effectively communicate in English
COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES
The employee must be able to:
Must be able to operate a computer including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Access databases, as well as web-based tools
Ability to learn and use SAP
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The employee should have the following:
Fouror more years of experience leading EHS programs and activities
Adegree in a related EHS field is required
