Primary Purpose
To assist the instructor in demonstrations, direct students in competency practice, facilitate student learning, perform check offs of students’ competencies.
Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities
Pre-Clinic Duties –
  • Interact with Lab Coordinator to request the order of needed supplies from the Dental Assisting Budget in time for their use in dental lab experiences

Laboratory Duties for Instruction –
  • Set up for demonstrations and competencies prior to laboratory experiences
  • Assist lab instructor during demonstrations or perform demonstrations
  • Coordinate student mentoring with that of the Instructor during competency practice
  • Grade Student Assignments and/or Competencies
  • Manage the camera and computer operations during demonstration transmissions or direct others in their operations
  • Provide support to instructor as needed and/or as requested
  • Direct students or perform tasks in operatory maintenance including; replacing chair traps weekly, disinfection of operatories, restocking, turning off master switches, and others as needed.
  • Maintain or direct students in waterline asepsis including the use of chemicals, shock treatments, and drying the lines at the end of each week.

Lab Maintenance –
  • Drain ultrasonic and disinfect it daily, or direct students to do so
  • Maintain sterilizers including water levels, cleaning, emptying of waste water bottles, and draining at the end of the academic year
  • Direct students in the refilling and chemical maintenance of water bottles
  • Perform weekly spore tests in all sterilizers, maintain documents results according to Oregon Board of Dentistry rules, schedule repairs when necessary
  • Maintain the water purifier – contact Silas Towns for filter replacement every 1.5 years
  • Clean traps in operatories, and compressor trap weekly

Materials & Supplies –
  • Keep all laboratory materials and supplies in the operatories stocked
  • Add laboratory materials that have reached the re-order point to the order list
  • Work with Lab Coordinator to keep lab clean and organized (laboratory supply storage area, wall shelves, tubs, counters, drawers, etc.)

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.   • Dental Assisting experience in general dentistry
  • Perform competency check offs in coordination with the Instructor
  • Ability to mentor and direct students during patient care
  • Experience in sterilization and maintaining aseptic techniques
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.
Ergonomic Requirements
Work is performed during regular working hours and in the Dental Lab. Mainly standing and walking during labs. Computer is used 10-20 percent of the time. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Requirements
  1. High School diploma or GED
  2. Current Certified Dental Assisting (CDA) Certification
  3. Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) Certification
  4. Computer literacy: experience with email, Internet, word processing, and spreadsheets (preferably experience with MS Office Suite products).
  5. Familiarity with the Internet and internal E-Mail system (prefer knowledge of Outlook).
  6. Accurate arithmetic, grammar, spelling, editing and proofreading skills.
  7. Knowledge of standard office equipment and phones.
  8. Experience with equipment use and maintenance in a dental operatory and lab
