About the Job



Summary of Position
The Admissions Counselor is a highly motivated, focused, and results-oriented professional who will serve as a key contact for prospective students in Minnesota. This position will represent the University of Minnesota to prospective students, prospective student families, and high school officials in Minnesota while providing customer service to prospective students from a variety of geographical locations. The position is hybrid, with expectations of working in office 2 to 3 days per week as the job requires.
This is a 100%-time, 12-month, annually renewable appointment in the academic professional and administrative (P&A) personnel series (classification 9702AN, SS Pro 2-Admissions). This position includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, 22 paid time off days, one personal holiday in addition to the existing 11 University holidays.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
* Serve as contact for freshman admissions; provide advising and assistance throughout the admission process to students, family members, and high school counselors.
* Recruit and facilitate enrollment of prospective undergraduate students, primarily from Minnesota.
* Plan, participate and work with student recruitment outreach activities on and off campus.
* Serve as a key liaison with high school counselors, independent counselors, and other school officials.
* Implement extensive recruitment and relationship-building efforts utilizing written, telephone, and in-person communication to prospective students, applicants, and admitted students.
* Coordinate and deliver on and off-campus information sessions to recruit students to apply and enroll at the University of Minnesota.
* Present at high school programs, recruitment events, and counselor meetings.
* Event planning and management; lead, host, and/or manage targeted recruitment events
* Participate in the execution of the office's Visits and Events programs.
* Evaluate academic and other credentials for admission decision and counseling purposes.
Salary range is $45,000-48,000, depending on qualifications.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree with at least two years of relevant work experience, or master's degree.
* Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to responsibly drive a vehicle.
* Must be able to travel locally and regionally for extended periods.
* Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays as needed.
* Demonstrated commitment to and competence working with individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds towards inclusive educational environments.
* Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
* Prior experience in college admissions and recruitment or a closely related unit such as campus tours, orientation, college access community based organizations or other direct work with student outreach and enrollment.
* Event planning or project management experience.
* Public speaking skills and experience.
* Preference given to candidates with University of Minnesota experience defined broadly such as former student, graduate, employee, or community member of any campus.
