Summary:
The person in this position will work on challenging geotechnical, civil, and environmental engineering projects involving coordination of field activities, data collection, and reporting. Project responsibilities may include drilling observation and field crew coordination; geotechnical drilling and instrumentation installation; instrumentation monitoring; surveying; construction observation; soil, groundwater, and surface water environmental sampling; and construction and industrial stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) inspections. Preparation of drilling logs, geologic maps, cross-sections, GIS figures, and technical reports will be expected in this role. On-site investigation tasks may include classifying soil and bedrock samples and collecting samples for field screening and laboratory analysis. Additional responsibilities may include field support for wetland delineations and baseline environmental data collection. The work may involve long hours and out-of-town assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:

Two-year technical certificate or experience/coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above

5 years of relevant experience

Geotechnical instrumentation installation, data collection, and data interpretation experience

Construction observation experience

Construction materials testing experience

Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, gINT

Surveying experience

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 50 pounds or more

Proven task or project management skills

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:

Environmental field work experience, particularly with stormwater inspections, water sampling, and/or soil sampling

Experience preparing construction documents

Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Hibbing, Minnesota, office.
NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and must be able to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Position will require lifting or moving field-testing equipment. Safety training will be provided before being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants will be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of clients.
