Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton is seeking a per diem Dietary Aide. Under the direct guidance of the Director of Nutrition Services and the direct supervision of the Supervisor, The Dietary Aide shall be responsible for performing a variety of duties, which include taking patient meal orders, the assembly/delivery/retrieval of meals, stocking of hospital pantries, completion of temperature logs, washing of pots/dishes and general cleaning duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
It is understood that this is a summary of key job functions and does not include every detail of the job that may reasonably be required.
1. Must have basic knowledge of specialized diets and menus (heart healthy diet, carbohydrate controlled diet, fluid restrictions, low potassium diet, etc.), and food allergies
2. Act as a liaison to food service for the patient, family and staff. Able to explain the meal selection process, including assisting with menu selection according to the patient’s prescribed diet order
3. Able to provide excellent service to patients by communicating effectively and efficiently, in person or over the phone, to ensure that all patients are receiving their prescribed foods that are also following hospital sanitation and safety procedures.
4. To speak with the patient, family member(s) or nurse to explain needed modifications regarding meal orders. To communicate changes and if possible find a satisfactory substitution. To assure a nutritionally balanced meal that meets the dietary restrictions of the patient’s diet order.
5. Acts upon patient, family, or staff meal service requests. These requests may include contacting and following through with the clinical dietitian regarding diet order issues or supplement changes. When necessary escalating requests to management
6. Manage patient nourishment, supplement and tube-feeding delivery.
7. Proficient using the HealthTouch Food ordering program according department policy and procedures and maintains accurate and updated patient information via the electronic diet office system.
8. Manages difficult or emotional situations and responds promptly to patient needs.
9. For administrative and tracking purposes, monitor, collect and/or record operation specific data.
10. May participate in tray delivery and pickup.

Requirements
1. Requires the ability to read, write, speak and communicate in English, to follow and give oral and written instructions, to be able to communicate with patients, hospital personnel, and co-workers. .
2. Customer service and/or call center experience preferred
3. Healthcare setting experience strongly preferred
4. Knowledge of the food and restaurant regulations set by the federal, Massachusetts and Boston City Health Codes and Joint Commission on the accreditation of Hospitals.
5. Must have computer skills and basic mathematics knowledge
