Job Summary

A Senior Buyer is responsible for being an ambassador and effectively sourcing and procuring wood products and related products, in conjunction with other buyers, other purchasing departments, plant management, & salespeople from different facilities. Works under general supervision; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks; a high degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Research, develop, and communicate new products and services.
Procure quality products and materials ensuring timely delivery of materials to meet production and customer requirements.
Purchase materials and subcontract operations based on pre-determined requirements and other pre-set parameters utilizing the ERP system.
Coordinate with stock room keeper to maintain all shop supplies at proper levels.
Coordinate regular cycle counts of inventory materials as assigned by direct supervisor.
Ensure the accuracy of all transactions related to the material or subcontract operation being purchased.
Update inventory and purchasing database as required.
Negotiate price-quality breakdowns with vendors, ensuring highest quality goods and services at lowest possible cost.
Monitor raw material inventory for optimum performance.
Communicate status of orders to Project Managers, Manufacturing, Operations, etc.
Maintain accurate ERP system data for use by manufacturing and project management.
Maintain accuracy of paperwork for vendors, receiving, and accounting
Track vendor performance and make recommendations accordingly.
Coordinate with shop floor to identify and correct inventory deficiencies.
Provide assistance and guidance to Estimating as required.
Assist Project Managers with ERP procedures and functions.
Assist Engineering in sourcing materials.
Analyze (value analysis) materials and processes to reduce costs.
Monitor costs and trends of assigned commodities.
Generate, establish and ensure standards for product quality and manufacturing processes are achieved.
Coordinate, manage and communicate project details with all divisions and overseas partners while ensuring product meets established lead times and quality standards.
Develop procedures and processes for project timelines, prototypes and value engineering.
Evaluate and measure supplier performance to determine capabilities through overseas and domestic partnerships.
Identify and overcome obstacles and challenges as a key problem solver for all partners.
Work with the idX overseas partner in developing lead-time promises for each project/order.
Track the progress of all existing orders and communicate progress to all divisions.
Be the "One Source" for all import product by facilitating the appropriate communication to all levels and divisions within idX, in order to ensure accuracy.
Facilitate and assist in the overseas value engineering effort
Work with overseas partners to develop a clear understanding of the supplier's true capabilities.

Prepares various reports as required.

Help create and develop new technologies and products to make us more efficient

Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in business or related discipline or equivalent experience is required.

Minimum 5 years UFP buyer or 5 years minimum lumber industry experience.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook, and business software.

Working knowledge of lumber math and business math.

Working knowledge of commodity market conditions and dynamics.

Working knowledge of lumber and panel grade rules Skills and abilities

Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing and speaking

Ability to successfully interact with all organizational levels and the public

Demonstrated proficiency to manage multiple tasks, to set priorities, and to meet deadlines.

Ability to assist manufacturing facilities to develop a purchasing strategy

Demonstrated ability to be mobile in the work environment.

Ability to use a computer terminal, and proficiency of the use of MS Office and other business software.

Ability to understand and apply cuts and yields with lumber math.

Demonstrated ability to negotiate transactions at a high level.

Demonstrated ability for quick and decisive thinking and problem solve.

Ability to pass a drug test
