About the Job



The Financial Reporting Manager provides leadership within the Reporting Group of Accounting Services - planning, developing, preparing, and implementing responsibilities related to the University's internal and external financial reporting. The Financial Reporting Manager is responsible for planning and coordinating the bi-annual and annual reporting process, identifying and implementing changes in financial reporting as required by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), various processes including the University's chart of accounts, journal entries and audit schedules related to the University's annual report, approval of departmental journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

30% - Interim and year-end financial reporting, including preparation, review and approval of journal entries and audit schedules, prepare detailed analysis of the University's financial position for various time periods. External financial reporting including, but not limited to, Higher Learning Commission, IPEDS, and the State of Minnesota.

25% - GASB implementations including researching authoritative sources on proper accounting and reporting, develop and implement ongoing processes related to the new standard; work with departments to determine appropriate reporting.

20% - Supervise, train and direct four professional staff members responsible for assisting with financial reporting, reconciliations, GASB implementations and chart of accounts.

10% - Assist academic departments on the correct accounting to use for various financial transactions. Assist with chart of accounts maintenance requests.

10% - Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations as assigned.

5% - Perform special projects as assigned by the Senior Financial Manager, Director, or Controller; or self-initiated projects including special analyses, projects and reports.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications:
BA/BS in Business, Accounting, or other related field OR a combination of related education and/or work experience to equal 8 years of experience.
Substantial experience in financial accounting and reporting that demonstrates an understanding of the entire accounting and reporting cycle.
Experience supervising/managing professional accounting employees.
Progressive accounting experience.
Excellent technical and analytical accounting skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Commitment to and a track record of supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Accounting
CPA designation (active or inactive).
