The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Variable Hours Officer will engage as study team members in education and training for study visit readiness. Conduct in-home study visits for local community study participants. Participate in study team meetings for patient-tailored plans.  


Responsibilities

The Community Health Worker will assist directly with the Columbia University Irving Medical Center's research team including Columbia Behavioral Cardiovascular Health's Center for Fearless Behavior Change and partner with Teacher's College NeuroRehabilitation lab to organize and implement a new program targeting physical activity after stroke. The CHW will receive education and training to perform physical therapy guided by behavioral therapy principles to reduce fear of falling after a stroke. The CHW be engaged in screening, recruitment and delivery of the study intervention with in-home study visits in the community as well as follow up of participants. The CHW will also participate in study team meetings to develop patient tailored plan.


Minimum Qualifications

H.S. Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience such as an InTouch Program Certificate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of experience 
  • Graduate of Columbia's certified CHW Training Institute called "InTOuCH"
  • Knowledge of community based research
  • Familiar with Institutional Review Board protocols, databases etc
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Strong communication skills
  • Flexibility in hours (i.e. work some evenings and one weekend day a month)
