Revenue Agent positions work in a variety of different work areas
including processing tax documents, providing answers to customer
questions related to tax forms and tax law, making adjustments or
preparing assessments and refunds, and collecting overdue taxes and
other debts. These roles provide quality customer assistance and acquire
additional information to help customers with tax questions. Positions
require a high degree of independence, initiative, technical knowledge
and ability to communicate across the organization. Job training will be
provided for specific computer programs and functions required by each
work area. However, experience regularly using a computer and Microsoft
office products to complete tasks will be necessary for success in the
position. Some work areas may not have positions available throughout
the entirety of this recruitment. Tax Operations (Madison): Process tax
documents, which includes resolving taxpayer objections to adjustment
notices; providing customer assistance, and processing exception work
items. Also involved in systems testing related to annual tax law
changes. Customer Service (Madison): Professional positions which
perform technical customer service activities which include answering
questions about return preparation, registration, and tax laws and
rules; making account corrections; explaining notices and requests for
information; and assisting customers with using external facing systems.
Audit (Madison/Milwaukee): Preparing assessments and refunds based on
federal audit reports, state agency reports, computer selected leads,
and other predefined criteria, using judgment in determining when to
refer a taxpayer file to an auditor for an expanded scope audit.
Correspond with the taxpayer to obtain additional information and
resolve taxpayer objections to assessment and refund notices.
Collections (All locations listed): Responsible for collecting overdue
taxes and other government debts by responding to customers and
promoting tax compliance, negotiating payment arrangements, initiating
wage garnishments, bank levies, and other involuntary collection
actions. Agents will use problem solving skills to identify collection
sources and move accounts to resolution. This work is performed in a
fast-paced environment with a variety of complex duties such as account
review, account management, and independent decision making. Work is
done from the office in an unscripted call center environment. DOR will
conduct a background check, fingerprint check and tax compliance check
on all finalists. Interview results may be reused in accordance with the
State of WI interview reuse policy. Applicants must be eligible to work
in the United States. DOR does not sponsor work or student visas, either
at time of hire or at any later time. DOR participates in E-Verify and
will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information for all
new employees to confirm authorization to work in the U.S. \*\*\*\*\*
OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates will have
experience with all of the following: Experience providing customer
service by phone, in writing and/or in person Experience reviewing
documents for completeness and/or to take action on information
submitted Well-qualified candidates will also have: Experience working
with tax laws (e.g., income, sales, withholding, excise) Call center
experience Experience explaining laws, regulations and/or statutes
Experience identifying or seizing assets and/or determining ability to
pay Experience testing system or software changes Effective verbal and
written communication skills are required and will be evaluated at a
