About the Job



As an employee of the University of Minnesota Foundation Medicine and Health team, this position leads the comprehensive development efforts for children's health and is responsible for creating and executing an effective strategic development plan on behalf of the University of Minnesota Department of Pediatrics within the Medical School, Women's & Children's Health Service line within M Health Fairview, as well as other children's health programs within the medical enterprise. This individual is responsible for a portfolio of major and principal donor prospects as well as managing one or more development officer(s) focused on donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors for gifts to research, education, clinical care, advocacy, and capital needs for all aspects of Children's Health. Major gift prospects include primarily individuals, foundations, corporations and businesses.
Starting salary: $116,000- 135,000 based on experience.

Responsibilities

Program Leadership (20%)
* Leads the development strategy for children's health throughout the Medical School and M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital.
* Leads and manages the development operations, which includes principal gifts, major gifts, establishing a culture of philanthropy, and launching a grateful patient program.
* Works closely with Department and M Health Fairview Service Line leaders to align strategic philanthropy priorities
* Partners closely with MIDB Co-Leaders and UMF MIDB Team on shared aspects of children's neurobehavioral development programs
* Collaborates with the Community Partnerships team to drive towards successful outcomes for of children's health-related cause marketing partnerships, WineFest - A Toast to Children's Health, FashionFest, and Champions for Children Celebrity Golf Classic

Philanthropy/Major Gifts Work (55%)
* Drives complex donor conversations, which include principal gifts, transformational gifts, and community partnerships.
* Influences the annual giving strategy for children's health
* Builds and maintains a portfolio of approximately 125 major gift prospects to ensure that timely steps are taken toward solicitation, closure, and stewardship. Performance expectations for this level of gift officer include approximately 15 to 20 solicitations per year at $50,000. Total annual gift production expectations for this level of position range from approximately $3 million to $5 million.
* Manages multiple complex gifts, including trusted advisers, and large scale Foundations. Regularly communicates with CEO's, C-Suite leaders, and Boards of Directors in a leadership capacity.
* Manages day-to-day responsibilities for the M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital Philanthropic Board (children's health advisory board comprised of corporate, community, and philanthropic leaders). This requires developing new tools for engagement, our external culture of philanthropy and managing the day-to-day operations for the Board.

Staff and Operations Management (20%)
* Directly supervises 1 Development Officers and 1 Program Manager (once hired).
* Indirectly supervises one administrative supports for children's health.
* Serves as liaison to annual giving, regional development, and leadership annual giving teams.
* Provides mentorship and leadership coaching to other development officers throughout Medicine & Health.

Organizational Leadership (5%)
* Participates in U-wide and UMF development functions.
* Assumes development reporting, presenting, and participating as requested.
