Part-Time Assistant Teacher (Saturday's)

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Teacher Assistant assists the classroom teacher in implementing the daily program in the classroom by preparing supplies and the classroom environment for the day's activities, and cleaning up and reorganizing the classroom at the end of the day. Under the direction of the Teacher, the Teacher Assistant supervises play activities, participates in group games, enforces safety rules, and assists children with self-help activities. The Teacher Assistant also serves as a behavioral role model for parents and volunteers by projecting a warm, caring personality towards others in a way that encourages and supports their positive self-esteem.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare classroom for the day's activities including but not limited to preparing supplies and arranging the classroom appropriately
Assist in clean up and reorganization of the classroom at the end of the day
As requested by the teacher, supervise play activities, participate in games, enforce safety rules, and intervene when children are at risk of injuring themselves and/or others
Assist children with self-help activities including but not limited to self-feeding, washing hands, tying shoes, buttoning buttons, holding pencils, and cleaning up after oneself
Assist parents as needed during lunchtime
Role model positive behaviors and parent-child interaction for parents and volunteers including, but not limited to interacting with peers, communicating with others, appropriate parent/child interactions for play and assisting child with age-appropriate tasks, as well as providing appropriate mental and physical stimulation, discipline, and structure
Change diapers and monitor toileting using universal precautions
Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and crisis management using agency-trained protocols
Perform cleaning tasks per the classroom cleaning schedule
Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED
Two (2) years' experience with preschool-aged children
Experience in a classroom setting highly preferred
Non-profit human service experience highly preferred
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities
Demonstrated strong attention to detail
Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills
Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to solve problems and make decisions in collaboration with the teacher
Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions
Must be able to perform CPR and crisis management using agency-trained protocols
Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
