JOB LOCATION:

JOB DUTIES:
Responsible for developing, evaluating, and managing animal health activities for sow farm. Specific duties include: (1) developing, implementing, and overseeing new health and breeding programs to allow sows to produce the maximum number of farrows with the highest quality genetic traits, including performing animal servicing, artificial insemination, and other procedures that will improve animal genetic composition; (2) selecting daily which boar semen to use on certain females based on Index Score to improve animal genetics; (3) performing detailed recordkeeping on health and reproduction activities; (4) evaluating semen quality and mobility under microscope; (5) heat checking animals and synchronizing females; (6) evaluating a wide variety of factors that impact health and reproduction including nutrition, climate, physical infrastructure, and physiological issues; (7) communicating with veterinarian on key reproductive indicators and animal health issues; (8) assisting with farrowing (birthing) of pregnant sows and care of isoweans (baby pigs); (9) administering vaccines and medical treatments to piglets.
