About the Job



Working Title: Gift & Garden Store Retail Sales Associate - Temp/Casual

The MN Landscape Arboretum Gift and Garden Store retail sales associates must provide customers with fast and friendly service while ensuring accuracy at the sales counter. Retail sales associates will ring a sale up on a register, collect payments, make change and issue receipts. They are asked to help with inventory by restocking shelves, unpacking new merchandise, pricing merchandise, inputting new inventory into the point of sale system, placing and displaying inventory onto the sales floor.
The Gift and Garden Store is open seven days a week, 363 days a year. The hours and days of weeks will vary and will include evening and weekend hours. This position will start on November 16 with an anticipated end date of December 31st, 2023.
Job Responsibilities:
Greet and assist customers in the store or on the phone
Customer sales are done on Altru Point of Sale System by scanning items, itemizing, applying discounts and totaling customer's purchases. Collects cash, checks and credit card payments from customers. Make change accurately and efficiently.
Processes refunds and return transactions as necessary
Answer customer questions as they arise
Maintain cash register drawer and reconciling at the end of day shifts
Rearranges merchandise and displays
Insures displays of merchandise are adequately stocked
Receives and prices incoming merchandise
Assists with tasks as needed included managing shelves, displays, and inventory
Clean shelves, sales counters, floors, inventory room, and sales area
Report any issues with the point of sale system

Qualifications



Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) and two year's experience handling money or retail experience. Training and education may substitute for some experience
Ability to read, understand instructions and work independently
Knowledge and experience of CRM point of sale system; Altru preferred
Proficient cashier and clerical skills
Comfortable with cash handling and cash drawer reconciliation
Strong customer service skills
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on a regular basis
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
Able to kneel, bend, reach and maneuver in small areas
Able to work a range of days, afternoons, evenings and weekends as scheduled

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is a community outreach unit of the University of Minnesota's College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences. The Arboretum is located west of Minneapolis/St Paul and its 1,200 acres traverse the municipalities of Chaska, Chanhassen and Victoria. As a member of the American Public Garden Association and an accredited museum through the American Alliance of Museums, the Arboretum is a tremendous public asset.
