As a Nurse Scientist, you will be responsible for: • Meeting multiple office/institute goals regarding evidence-based nursing practices, research and innovative solutions. • Showing progression in your own research program, presenting research work nationally, and publishing your findings. • Meeting protégée needs for research advancement (PICO, design/implement/analysis, and disseminate/translate into practice). • Supporting grant development (for self, protégées and collaborative projects) and submission, IRB correspondence/activities, and grant management/research accounting activities. • Acting as a research educator, coach and co-investigator. This is a full-time position to work 3 days a week remotely and 2 days a week in the office (or 5 days a week in office) at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus in Cleveland, Ohio.

This position requires a research-based doctorate in nursing (PhD, DNSc) or related field (SCD, EdD, etc.) with a completed research dissertation, at least 2+ years of clinical or healthcare-related research experience beyond dissertation work, publication experience as first author, grant funding application/experience, and qualifications for a faculty appointment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates to meet Nursing Institute and Office on research and innovation goals/strategic activity management.
  • Works collaboratively with Div. Clinical Research, OSR, IRB, Law Department, Lerner Research Institute and Research Compliance office to assure optimal activities/expectations.
  • Demonstrates leadership and professional relationships with national nursing organizations, local colleges with doctorate programs, etc.
  • Shows evidence of escalating program of research for self, including funding and provides counsel to multiple protégée/mentees.
  • Identifies and guides others in optimal evidence/best practices/systems of care related to mentoring Institutes.
  • Guides protégée with extramural funds applications.
  • Initiates and facilitates relationships with: funding agencies, nursing organizations, foundations, local colleges with masters and doctoral nursing programs, and corporations.
  • Demonstrates progression in dissemination of new research and innovation evidence by developing/guiding papers for self/mentees in high-tiered peer-review journals (minimum 2/year- 1st author and 1 as mentor) and presenting at national meetings (minimum, 2 per year) on relevant topics to hospital/ ambulatory care processes, outcomes, systems, interventions and operational efficiencies; and research involving novel interventions.
  • Ensures that self and nurses/teams being mentored follow policies and procedures related to confidentiality, research compliance and research contracts, budgeting, etc.
  • Serves as a consultant to external nurse scientists, corporations, and government agencies. Serves on Nursing Institute and non-CCF (external) committees.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Research based doctorate in nursing (PhD, DNSc) or related field (SCD, EdD,e tc) with completed research dissertation

Certifications:

  • State licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Certifications preferred

Work Experience:

  • Demonstrated skills in human relations, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration. Escalating publication experience (research/reviews) in peer-rev journals as 1st author & invited podium presentations at local/national meetings is preferred.
  • Research experiences should be extensive- with multiple research designs/methods, and evidence of publication of findings.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Nurse Scientist I or related role.
  • Received previous extramural grant funding.   
  • Is qualified for faculty appointment with a collegiate partners.
  • Must be able to multitask, be flexible with work, be results/outcomes-driven and work collaboratively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires extensive sitting/dexterity to perform PC work.
  • Requires the ability to walk to other parts of CC to attend meetings and the ability to drive to Northeast Ohio Cleveland Clinic hospitals, regional medical practices/ambulatory care centers, local colleges and corporate sites; in some cases, may require carrying or pushing weight assoc. with paperwork and/or clinical devices used in the conduct of research, including early morning or late evening/many locations
  • Must have normal or corrected vision and the ability to listen attentively and verbally communicate to employees, patients and lay public who may be involved in research.
  • Sedentary Work; Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of time)
