Description of Work Unit | The mission of the Lory Student Center (LSC) is to serve as a student-centered organization at the heart of campus, providing programs and services that create an inclusive community and inspire active, engaged learning. As an auxiliary enterprise within the Division of Student Affairs, the Lory Student Center is a comprehensive student union recognized nationally as one of the leading university centers. The LSC annual operating budget is approximately $40 million. Nearly 125 full-time career staff and 650 student and hourly staff serve approximately 24,000 people entering the facility on a daily basis and hosts approximately 13,000 annual events and meetings. Areas within the Lory Student Center include the CSU Bookstore; Campus Activities; Marketing; Operations; Student Leadership Involvement & Community Engagement (SLiCE); an extensive array of business and service partners; and Lory Dining Services. Lory Dining Services is a hybrid auxiliary department consisting of an innovative blend of contracted and self-operated retail dining units in the Lory Student Center and across the University. The self-operated retail dining units include one convenience store in the LSC and one convenience store at the Lake Street Parking garage, and five coffee shops across campus, with two of them being in the LSC. In addition, there are three quick-service restaurants, a full service dining restaurant, catering department, a pub and a microbrewery in the department, all located in the LSC. Lory Dining Services exists to sell a variety of food and beverages, in a safe and sanitary environment and for the best possible value, to a diverse customer base at Colorado State University. The work of Lory Student Center staff members is guided by and in alignment with CSU’s Principles of Community, the Division of Student Affairs values, and the Lory Student Center mission. Position Summary |
A signing bonus of up to $2000.00 may be considered for successful candidates. This position exists to provide Lory Dining Services with the ability and leadership to be dynamic in the development of emerging trends in both coffee and convenience items that meet the needs of the campus community. Duties include compliance with Environmental Health Services and state of Colorado rules and regulations, development and implementation of new menu items and updating standard operating procedures. Position has responsibilities and oversight over a combined revenue budget of $2.9 million. Position also has oversight of student staff, inventory management, sustainability efforts and develops training and development regimen in new and existing coffee shops & convenience stores and ensures excellent product quality and customer service through effective staff training. DEIJ initiatives are threaded into everything done and student success is the beacon that drives department staff. The department model consists of CSU students managing and staffed in each operation.
