What is the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program (GNRP): Choose Your Journey? 

UPMC St. Margaret is pleased to announce we are NOW HIRING Graduate Nurses as full-time Professional Staff Nurses to support various hospital units as part of a special Rotational Program. Nurses in this program will be assigned to various units per the designed track and then be able to choose other units to create their own journey. There are three programs per year correlated to typical graduation dates starting in the Spring, Summer, and Fall/Winter.

What units are included in the Acute Care Track?

Units Assigned: 

• 3B is an acuity adaptable, fast-paced 34-bed telemetry Step Down unit that serves the needs of critically ill patients from admission through discharge. The patient population is medical patients who require a higher level of cardiac monitoring than can be achieved with flex monitoring on a Medical Surgical floor, but who do not require ICU care.
• ICU (Intensive Care Unit) is a 7-bed Medical Surgical ICU that cares for the critically ill.  Nursing care is provided to patients who are critically ill, cardiac compromised, or clinically unstable.  The services provided include, but are not limited to, hemodynamic and cardiac monitoring, continuous renal replacement therapy, and patients requiring specialized medications.

Unit Choices (select one or skip and select two from below):

• ED (Emergency Department) is a 24 hour/7 day a week community Emergency Department. The unit has 26 beds, along with an 8-bed holding area. Our Emergency Department is a certified (AHA) primary stroke center and specializes in orthopedics. The ED sees a variety of medical emergencies, including chest pain, shortness of breath, stroke symptoms, orthopedic emergencies, abdominal pain, and minor trauma. Our scope of service includes patients of all ages.
• GI Lab is a Procedural area where Upper endoscopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP, and Enteroscopy are performed. There are 3 Procedural rooms, and it is a fast-paced environment that consists of 3 areas of interest. The Pre-Area is where the patient is prepped and gotten ready for the Procedure. The GI Lab procedure room is where the procedure is done, and the documentation occurs. One will also assist the physician with the procedural needs. The Post area is where the patient Recovers.

Unit Choices: (select ONE or TWO, depending on your choice above)

• 4A is a 28-bed, private room, acute rehabilitation unit. The unit provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to adult and geriatric patients ages 18 and over.
• 4B is a 30-bed orthopedic unit which provides care for all orthopedic needs within the realm of our practice, including total joint replacement, spinal surgery, shoulder surgeries, and foot/ankle surgeries
• 5A is a 34-bed medical/surgical unit with neurology and oncology subspecialties. The services provided on 5A include all medical/surgical needs within our realm of practice specializing in stroke, cancer, and palliative/hospice care.
• 5B is a 33-bed, private room, Medical-Surgical unit, caring for adult and geriatric patients ages 18 and over. A full range of general adult medical diagnoses admitted to the unit include, but are not limited to, CHF, COPD, and Peritoneal Dialysis.
• 6A is a 34-bed medical/surgical and step-down unit that provides care to adult and geriatric patients with a focus on pre and post-surgical patients.  We provide care to a full range of general adult medical diagnoses, but our primary specialties are general surgery, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, ENT, GYN, urologic surgery, and plastic surgery

What Does Placement Look Like Post-GNRP?  

Upon completion of the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program, placements are determined by participant preference, Hiring Manager preference, and business need through a collaborative matching process at UPMC St. Margaret.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education.

Shift/Hours: Our RNs work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor. 

GNs must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role -OR- must have a Temporary Practice Permit and commit to taking the NCLEX examination within 4 months of hire.
