As an Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will provide technical and administrative support to the internal and external client network of WSB. This position involves operational-level work in the field of environmental compliance within NPDES regulations (MS4, Construction, and Industrial); a variety of duties relating to the administrative, technical, and operational requirements of the Clean Water Act; and compliance with the provisions of Section 402. Duties include the reception, processing, and review of SWPPPs and new permit applications for a variety of projects, and maintaining records required for permit compliance and program administration. In addition to permit level work, this position also involves site inspection, water quality sampling activity, and pollutant evaluation work. The successful facilitation of these duties requires considerable contact with clients, city engineers, and contractors, as well as municipal officials and government agency personnel.
As an Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will:
* Coordinate stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) development, NPDES permitting, compliance, and reporting.
* Conduct inspections and follow up administrative actions and enforcement for construction site activities.
* Assist municipalities in the administration of their MS4 programs, including developing and reviewing ordinances, policies, and procedures, performing plan review, recordkeeping, training, and facilitating education and outreach activities.
* Develop stormwater and environmental plans and reports, and delivers reports and presentations, as required.
* Liaise with regulatory entities regarding environmental issues and obtain project approvals.
What You Will Bring:
The successful candidate must have:
* Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, hydrology, natural resources management, or a closely related field and two years of experience. Or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, elected officials, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
* Ability to work in a variety of terrain and weather conditions associated with construction activities.
* Intermediate level of computer proficiency with word processing and database software, preferably Microsoft Office programs.
* Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
* Certification as a Construction Site Manager, Construction Installer and/or SWPPP Designerfrom the University of Minnesota Erosion and Stormwater Management program is preferred.
