Job Description:
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
-REGULATORY SUPPORT
Maintain deep Subject Matter Expertise in North America consumer product regulations, including national, U.S. state, and Canada provincial regulations such as FHSA, CCCR, CPSIA, Prop 65, CCPRTKA, and various state and provincial regulations of chemicals. Anticipate changes to North America consumer product regulations and prepare Sherwin-Williams to address those changes. Maintain knowledge of broader global regulatory landscape for consumer products.
Serve as internal Subject Matter Expert in consumer product regulations and lead cross-functional (Product Stewardship, Marketing, R&D, Procurement, Finance, IT, etc.) impact assessments and responses for significant new or modified regulations.
Define and lead implementation of required actions to support compliance and continued sale or distribution of products sold to consumers.
Partner closely with Sherwin-Williams Legal department on regulatory applicability interpretations for products sold to consumers.
Develop and implement robust regulatory controls within key S-W business processes and systems to achieve compliance with consumer product regulations. Develop robust compliance assurance tools, such as assessment frameworks, audit protocols, formal Standards, and Key Performance Indicators.
Mentor emerging Subject Matter Experts in Product Stewardship, especially in North America consumer product regulations.
-CUSTOMER AND EXTERNAL SUPPORT
Provide expert level response to internal and external customer inquiries. Represent Sherwin-Williams on consumer product regulatory topics during customer and supplier meetings.
Provide consumer product regulatory impact assessment summaries to executive leadership.
Partner closely with Sherwin-Williams Legal department to respond to Agency compliance inquiries.
Represent Sherwin-Williams externally on trade associations, including committee leadership roles. In partnership with Government Affairs, contribute to position papers and keypointers on business-critical legislative and regulatory issues relating to consumer products.
Provide training to customers on consumer product regulatory requirements and/or Sherwin-Williams processes.
-CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Lead development of business requirements for any new or enhanced IT systems to support regulatory compliance for Sherwin-Williams products sold to consumers.
Implement system or process improvements to improve efficiency, accuracy, or cost of compliance for products sold to consumers.
Provide Subject Matter Expertise on cross functional continuous improvement teams.
Engage with professional societies as needed to maintain professional certifications.
FORMAL EDUCATION:
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in science or engineering from an accredited institution
Preferred:
Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in science or engineering from an accredited institution
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
15 years' experience in regulatory or product stewardship function
Preferred:
20 years' experience in function
10 years' experience on trade association regulatory committees
10 years' experience working with consumer products regulations
TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
Use a variety of IT applications
Excellent presentation skills, including experience presenting to external and executive leadership audiences
Experience in paint & coatings or chemical industry
Preferred:
Project lead of cross functional, large-scale, and global projects or initiatives
Travel - 25%
