This position will pick up and deliver food and other needed products throughout Eastern Michigan and represent the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to major food companies, agency partners, and other stakeholders, while maintaining safe food handling practices and comply with Feeding America & AIB/ Safe food Handling Practices & procedures. This position is also responsible for providing excellent customer service to all internal team members and other stakeholders of the organization. All activities will support the organization’s mission, culture, and strategic plan objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Create and maintain a positive work environment in alignment with the Company core values.
• Timely and professional execution of product donation pick-ups and deliveries for Food Bank, driving long distances to accomplish assignments.
• Maintain rapport with donors and/or their employees to foster continued support and a professional working relationship.
• Maintain accurate records of vehicle operations and maintenance daily, with pre & post trip inspections and cleaning of equipment in compliance with DOT regulations.
• Load and off-load company vehicles as required. Exercise safe lifting practices.
• Perform routine general maintenance and repairs on tractor/trailer, reporting problems to the Logistics Coordinator and Transportation Manager.
• Serve as a back-up driver to any Class B Driver position as required/instructed by the Transportation Manager.
• Complete and perform accurate follow-through on documentation for shipping, receiving, unloading, and warehousing of product, as defined by FBEM policies and procedures.
• Inspect product donations to ensure that safety and sanitation standards are met.
• Maintain all current licenses, certifications, and medical cards, in accordance/compliance with Federal, State, and FBEM mandated requirements.
• Work effectively with stakeholders from diverse populations with sensitivity, understanding and acceptance of others.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in maintaining an orderly and sanitary warehouse.
• Assist other drivers/warehouse staff with their responsibilities, as directed by the Transportation and/or Warehouse Manager.
• Perform duties in accordance with FBEM safety policy and applicable guidelines
