About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU].

This position is within the FirstEnergy Construction & Design Services, Transmission Programs & Support Equipment & Standards group. The Administrative Technician is responsible for managing Transmission and Substation Equipment over several projects being worked on by the Transmission & Substation Engineering Design department within FirstEnergy. This position requires familiarity with Transmission and Substation Equipment requirements and will work with a staff of engineers and specialists engaged in a wide variety of Equipment specifications from the request for equipment through delivery. This position will report on the progress of various pieces of equipment required for projects and advise of any issues that could impair the successful completion of the project on a proactive basis. The employee must be willing to participate in technical training relating to Major Equipment and internal Substation and Transmission standards. This position will be involved in monitoring equipment expenditures to ensure projects stay within budget allocation and meet the required in-service date. The reporting location for the position will be Akron, OH.

Responsibilities include:


Managing Major Equipment orders for Transmission and Substation projects from the initial request for equipment through delivery.
Managing action item lists for Substation Engineering Projects.
Participating in learning opportunities to expand knowledge base of Transmission and Substation Engineering equipment needs.
Evaluating equipment ratings and requirements, and project schedules to facilitate the accurate ordering of equipment.
Supporting communication across business units regarding project equipment needs.
Working with outside consultants, vendors, and equipment manufacturers.
Confirming equipment documentation is available to necessary personnel.
Supporting and sustaining FirstEnergy as a high performing organization by contributing to excellent organizational performance and values of FirstEnergy through responsible effective work performance.
Convening internal project schedule compliance review meetings with the necessary parties to assure equipment deliveries support project schedule and are within the project budget.

Qualifications include:


Minimum a high school diploma or GED.
Minimum of 7 years previous experience in an administrative support position that included duties of a technical nature.
Advanced written and oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects, and complete tasks on time.
Knowledge of equipment manufacturing processes is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of Substation and/or Transmission equipment is preferred but not required.
Proficiency with applicable computer software necessary to fulfill job duties including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Adobe.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, FileNet, SAP, and Cascade is preferred but not required.
Must be able to manage several projects simultaneously and be able to work effectively under the pressure of deadlines, unexpected developments, changes in project scope, budget constraints, unforeseen field problems and demands on time for work assignments outside of the normal duties.
Must develop and maintain personal relationships that further facilitate the cooperation needed to complete assigned tasks.
Must have strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels across the FE organization as well as with manufacturers.
Must be able to communicate effectively with good verbal skills and writing skills, providing comprehensive project status reports, clear and concise correspondence, and accurate information.
Must possess strong organizational skills.
Must pass the Support and Administrative Selection System (SASS) test.
