Summary

The Quality Technician III is responsible for material evaluations and conducts various testing activities and analysis on sample material. Communicates results effectively and reports meaningful and unbiased conclusions based on evaluations. Conducts specific activities in accordance with established laboratory practices and procedures. Leads and contributes improvements to the lab evaluation processes, Job Safety Analysis and Test Methods. Leads laboratory maintenance and calibration of equipment. Leads and supports training for new hires. Assures all activities are performed safely.

Essential Duties

  • Perform chemical and physical property testing to ASTM and GAF internal standards.

  • Manages the LIMS system and spreadsheets for data storage.

  • Provide comprehensive test reports for special projects.

  • Conduct testing per established protocols and provide accurate data.

  • Assist in making data-driven decisions on lab dispositions.

  • Improve lab efficiency through monitoring of claims / samples influx and prioritizing work to improve and/or meet lab turnaround time expectations.

  • Strong practical knowledge of key product lines, lab evaluation processes, product specifications and application instructions.

  • Assist in problem solving teams - root cause analysis investigations, and report findings in a clear meaningful format.

  • Foster partnerships across different teams such as warranty, R&D, and manufacturing plants.

  • Become familiar with various manufacturing processes of different products.

  • Knowledge of engineering/science fundamentals.

  • Maintain lab supplies inventory to run the lab efficiently while staying within budget.

  • Participate as an auditor in the Quality Systems and Culture plant audits and assist in supplier audits as needed.

  • Design and complete special lab projects as assigned.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment as required by the calibration index.

  • Keep accurate records and documentation.

  • Learn and develop new test methods, SOPs and JSAs.

  • Assist manager in organizing daily lab workflow.

  • Train new hires, develop, mentor, and provide guidance to junior technicians.

  • Plans and executes assigned projects and prioritizes tasks through time management system and by coordinating internal and external resources.

  • Assure all activities are performed safely per established safety guidelines.

  • Maintain a work area in a safe, clean, and orderly fashion on a daily basis following 5S guidelines.

  • Contribute to Job Safety Analysis and Test Method development utilizing POKA.

  • Participate in plant safety committee meetings, and ensure lab safety issues are properly identified and addressed. Complete assigned safety training.

  • Comply with all safety requirements, health hazards, and SDS maintenance.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

Under This Roof, We Require

  • Associate’s degree in STEM discipline is required.

  • The candidate should have experience with physical property and the accompanying equipment.

  • Lab experience is required, preferably 2-5 years in roofing or related manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline is preferred.

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in quality, testing, or manufacturing is preferred.
