As an Accountant or Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for preparing, submitting, reviewing, analyzing, and reporting on tax and expense related exhibits and schedules to complete financial reporting, filings, and various analyses for the company. This position also prepares and reviews monthly reports for budgeting, planning and statutory reporting and responds to inquiries and requests from external sources.

This is a hybrid eligible position with remote work consideration. This position may require planned visits to a Company office.

Description of Duties & Responsibilities of an Accountant or Senior Accountant:

  • Prepare and submit various state income tax forms & filing forms for parent, subsidiary companies and nonprofit. Prepare sales tax returns, premium and municipal taxes, state tax forms and various workpapers to support federal income taxes.
  • Prepare, analyze, and review financial statements expenses, taxes, licenses and fees for budgeting, forecasting, planning, and statutory reporting.
  • Act as Third Party Administrator to prepare monthly financial reports for MetLife.
  • Create, review and approve general ledger entries and reconcile various general ledger accounts. Prepare and review bank reconciliations and assist in daily banking transactions.
  • Work with various departments on correcting accounting entries and accounting and internal audit training. Research accounting variances; assist auditors with supporting documentation, correspond with advisors and custodian representatives.

                Description of Duties and Responsibilities of an Underwriting Consultant:

                • Demonstrate a mastery of the Company’s product portfolio, implementation and enrollment processes, and marketplace influences.

                • Engage in advanced phone and email contact with Reinsurers regarding resolution of questions on potential cases.
                • Underwrite cases in an efficient, sound, objective, and consistent manner with consideration for the Company’s philosophies, profitability, mortality expectations, and marketplace needs.
                • Provide ongoing support to internal and external customers. Engage in communication with field associates, internal staff, and vendors in support of Company mortality, profitability, and sales objectives.
                • Manage case inventory within time standards established by department management.
                • Monitor case queue of supervised Underwriter Trainees.

                  Required skills and experience of an Underwriting Consultant:

                  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience is required.
                  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills while working with different levels of both internal and external stakeholders.
                  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and difficult customer service situations is required.
                  • Training experience in an underwriting environment is required.
                  • Knowledge of company and industry products and procedures preferred.
                  • Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and industry involvement through participation (board member, program committee, or past president) in a local, regional, or national underwriting association is preferred.

                    • Prepare annual benefit statements for participants.
                    • Monitor plan and prepare document restatements, plan amendments, and summary plan descriptions as needed. Ensure plan document is compliant with current laws and regulations and meets client objectives.
                    • Process plan terminations as required; prepare termination amendments, board resolutions, 204(h) notices, and 5310 filings with the IRS and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Review amendments to ensure compliance with current regulation before plan is terminated.
                    • Bill clients for all administrative services rendered; complete daily time sheets.

                    Description of Duties & Responsibilities of an Advanced Pension Analyst (Defined Contribution):

                    • Complete annual account valuations; determine eligibility, reconcile trust assets, compute required contributions, and allocate earnings, contributions and forfeitures.
                    • Complete non-discrimination testing and other required testing, 5500/government forms, and summary annual report for all plans assigned.
                    • Provide pre- and post-sale marketing support to prospective clients and advisors including technical questions, plan design, plan design proposal reviews, and client/advisor meetings.
                    • Create or restate plan documents for new and take over clients as needed. Interface with various qualified plan investment companies to arrange and systemize plan related data transfer to and from SAI.
                    • Provide training and technical support for administration systems as needed. Interface with help desk staff to resolve and issues. Monitor new product releases for administrative systems and present for consideration by SAI management as required. Design and run custom reports from administration system as requested and verify new plan assignments and terminations entered.
                    • Process participant loan requests. Calculate maximum loan amounts and review for compliance with applicable regulations. Process periodic contribution and loan repayment checks through investment company websites.
                    • Calculate and request benefit distributions, including minimum required distributions. Prepare required election, disclosure, and tax forms as needed.

                    Required skills & Experience of a Senior Pension Analyst or Advanced Pension Analyst (Defined Contribution):

                    • For a Senior Pension Analyst level, between 5 to 7 years of related experience required.
                    • For an Advanced Pension Analyst, a minimum of 7 years of related experience required.
                    • Knowledge of Relius and/or FTWilliams pension software required
                    • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required.
                    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
                    • Strong customer service skills.
                    • Ability to think analytically and critically.
                    • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
                    • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
                    • Ability to prioritize and organize a heavy workload.
                    • Ability to adapt to change and work under pressure.
                    • Ability to learn quickly and take on increasing responsibility.

                    Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field of study required.

                    Pay Range:

                    Senior Pension Analyst: $24.32 to $31.29 hourly
                    Advanced Pension Analyst: $58,500 to $80,000 Annually

                    The starting pay rate for this role is based on a variety of relevant factors, including location, education, experience, and skills.

                     The level for this position will be determined based on factors including relevant skills, experience and other qualifications.
