Job Summary:
Engineers in this position play a pivotal role in the comprehensive design, integration, testing, and certification of interior furnishings and seat systems tailored for general aviation aircraft.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This role does not involve supervisory responsibilities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Utilize PTC Creo to meticulously design detail parts, assemblies, and installations of seating and monuments, incorporating appropriate reduced dimensions and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to drawings.
- Collaborate with a team of engineers to conceptualize, design, and certify aviation seats, ensuring adherence to stringent industry standards.
- Assist in developing design requirements, processes, project plans, and activities essential for the successful design and certification of aircraft seats.
- Author comprehensive test plans, test reports, and engineering documentation to facilitate product development, validation, and certification, overseeing both static and dynamic testing to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with seat component suppliers to coordinate seamless integration and procurement processes.
- Work autonomously as well as collaboratively within cross-functional teams, contributing expertise and insights to foster innovative solutions.
- Apply relevant sections of Federal Aviation Regulations Part 23 and demonstrate familiarity with seat static testing, dynamic testing, and FAA certification protocols.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Possess a 4-year degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering discipline. Candidates with a 2-year degree in an engineering or technical field coupled with relevant experience will also be considered.
- Accumulate a minimum of 5 years of progressive engineering experience with a 4-year degree, or 10 years of progressive engineering experience with a 2-year degree. Previous experience in aviation and/or automotive seats is highly preferred.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of aircraft or automotive seat materials and manufacturing processes, with proficiency in crashworthiness and seat belts being advantageous.
- Familiarity with Design to Cost, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly, or Design for Maintainability methodologies is desirable.
- Exhibit proficiency in CAD, PDM/PLM, and collaboration tools, with preference given to candidates experienced in PTC Creo, PTC Windchill PDM, and Atlassian JIRA tools.
- Possess excellent communication skills, capable of articulating technical and program knowledge effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
