The Role & Projects
The role of a SQL DBA (Database Administrator) intern is to assist the SQL DBA team in managing and maintaining the organization's databases. The intern works closely with the SQL DBA professionals to support database-related tasks and gain practical experience in database administration.
Database maintenance: Assisting in routine database maintenance tasks such as monitoring database performance, optimizing queries, and ensuring data integrity.
Backup and recovery: Assisting in creating and managing database backups and recovery plans to ensure data is protected and can be restored in case of any failures.
Security management: Assisting in implementing and maintaining database security measures, including user access controls, authentication, and data encryption.
Troubleshooting and problem resolution: Assisting in identifying and resolving database-related issues, such as performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, or data corruption.
Database optimization: Assisting in identifying and implementing strategies to improve database performance, such as indexing, query optimization, and database tuning.
Documentation and reporting: Assisting in documenting database configurations, processes, and procedures. Generating reports to provide insights into database performance and usage.
Collaboration and support: Collaborating with other IT teams and end-users to understand their database-related requirements and provide support as needed.
Learning and development: Continuously learning and staying updated with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices. Taking part in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills in SQL database administration.
Overall, the role of a SQL DBA intern is to gain practical experience in database administration, assist in day-to-day database management tasks, and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the organization's database systems.
About the Team
As a SQL DBA Intern, you will be working with the DBA Services team. This team focus in keeping all Databases within PACCAR up and running and modernize to latest technologies like PostgreSQL in the cloud (All platforms). The team work on multiple projects keeping the vision of scalability and cloud vision without affecting performance and quality of our services.
We are enthusiastic about learning new technologies and implementing them to empower internal customers and scale the existing platform. We have a great communication with business and technical teams. Our goal is to design, implement, and operate stable, scalable, and low-cost database solutions. Our Database Administrator would design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale, high-volume, high-performance database structures. On a day-to-day level, we do database backups, maintenance, monitoring, and responding to database-related alerts and escalations.

Job Responsibilities
Monitor, perform proactive management and recovery procedures on PACCAR Databases servers.
Support SQL Server database migrations or upgrades
Support for Agile processes related to databases projects.
Contributes to and maintains database standards.
Support for Microsoft SSIS
Required Experience & Skills
1-2 years hands-on IT technical experience or intern experience
Ability to work under pressure and multitask within a fast-paced environment
Communicate clearly with team members, technical support groups, and management
Able to perform advanced troubleshooting techniques and recovery procedures on SQL Databases using SQL server administration tools
Functional knowledge with SQL and relational database systems
Operational knowledge of applications: SQL Studio Services
Education
Undergraduate degree in IT, Computer Science or related field desired in progress or recently completed
