Job Description
Parking and Transportation Services at Syracuse University is actively seeking Van Drivers to fill four full time positions. Shifts vary and may include daytime, evening, overnight and weekend requirements.

The University seeks safe, friendly van drivers to help transport students and staff members throughout the Syracuse University campus and off campus locations.
Qualifications
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Be able to utilize two-way radio communications
  • Basic computer skills preferred such as email and Excel
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a thorough background check, which includes employment history, and a criminal record check
  • Pre-employment and continued random drug screening will be required.
  • Ability to work various events during evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Must complete any recertification requirements in a timely manner
Job Specific Qualifications
  • An active Class D license with a safe driving record required
  • Minimum 1-2 years of passenger driving experience
Responsibilities
  • Drive and operate a shuttle van to transport passengers around campus and throughout the City of Syracuse in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Operate vehicle while adhering to university policies and procedures.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections as required by department policy and DOT regulations.
  • Operate vehicle communication systems within guidelines of university policies.
  • Clean and fuel van as part of daily duties, and as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain scheduled route to established time and mileage. Immediately notify manager or supervisor of changes/delays.
  • Record and report incidents/problems through appropriate procedures established by the department, including accidents and mechanical concerns.
  • Report all accidents immediately to the CFAS Safety manager.
  • Provide information to students, faculty, and staff members regarding the shuttle service program.
  • Attend all required University, federal and state regulatory in-service training and meetings.
Physical Requirements
  • 20/20 or better vision with or without corrective lenses
  • Able to read and follow maps/directions
  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Able to climb in and out of shuttle and safely operate/park vehicle
  • Able to assist physically challenged riders on and off vans
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping

  • Two-Way radio
