Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Nutrition Center Manager I/Driver manages a single non-cooking nutrition center effectively so that seniors benefit from the meal and the social contact available to them in a meal site setting. Responsible for overall coordination and distribution of meals, including scheduled meal deliveries. This position is also responsible for recruiting individuals to help with the various volunteer jobs at the meal site.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

Responsible for all aspects of running a non-cooking nutrition center.
Deliver meals to home delivered participants within designated area, if applicable
Be alert to clients in extreme need and report to supervisor.
Maintains a current and accessible Hazard Chemical book, policies & procedures manual, emergency plans, and can execute action in case of emergencies.
Performs outreach activities that promote and encourage participation in nutrition programs.
In consultation with appropriate staff, if applicable, determines necessary quantities of food and supplies required, orders meals and supplies.
Oversees reservations and documentation.
Ensures food safety standards are practiced.
Recruits, trains, manages volunteers in performance of their designated tasks, if applicable.
Coordinates home delivery route scheduling for efficiency, if applicable.
Becomes knowledgeable of Milestones programs for seniors to provide basic information, assistance, and referrals.
Promotes nutrition center(s) as a focal point, by outreaching and planning activities of senior interest that encourages participation. This includes Nutrition Education presentations at least once monthly, daily announcements, reading next day’s menu, scheduling health promotion events/topics, and providing current Milestones program information.
Accurately completes and submits all daily, weekly, and /or monthly paperwork timely.
Accounts for all monies received. Making sure all home and congregate monies are separate.
Reports problem situations or concerns regarding the nutrition center, participants, or volunteers to supervisor.
Serves up congregate and/or deliver home meals from bulk food containers (or in accordance to meal delivery system established).
Transports meals from cooking site to serving site, if applicable.
Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES FOR POSITION:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience with food purchasing, preparation and planning for large quantities.

Customer service and/or public speaking experience a plus.

Experience working with volunteers a plus.

Must have basic computer skills and working knowledge with Microsoft Applications.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of participants.

Can maintain safe and sanitary work habits.

Must have ServSafe Certification or within 6 months of date of hire. Certification must be maintained if work site does not have a head cook on site.

Must be able to lift 30 lbs. on your own and up to 50 lbs. with assistance.

Must have the ability to travel as job requires. Special circumstance accommodations may be made at Program Director or CEO’s discretion.

SCHEDULE:

Part- Time: Monday - Friday, 10:30a - 12:30p

SALARY:

Range: $10.40 - $14.77 per hour

BENEFITS:

Services We Offer...

Information, Referral, and Assistance provides a connection to community networks and resources
to help people age 60+, and individuals living with disabilities age 18-59 maintain independence, security,
and quality of life.

Care Coordination/Options Counseling provides short-term individual planning and implementation
of long-term support and services for people 60+, individuals with disabilities 18+, veterans, and caregivers.
Case Management is the ongoing coordination of services for those 60+ living independently at home by
utilizing resources for home-based community services that help with activities of daily living.

Senior Nutrition Program offers daily nutritious meals to individuals age 60+ and their spouses of any
age. Meals are served in social, congregate dining centers known as “Community Cafés,” participating “Iowa
Café” restaurants, or delivered to the home for those who are home-bound. Individual nutrition counseling and group nutrition/wellness education is also offered.

Family Caregiver Program supports those who provide care for anyone age 60+ by providing information and resources along with individual counseling and support groups.

Iowa Return to Community Program helps facilitate a successful transition back to home and community after a hospital or rehabilitation stay.

Senior Health Insurance Program Information connects experienced, knowledgeable volunteers with individuals to help provide guidance and possible savings for Medicare and other health insurance programs.

Wellness and Safety: Heath Promotion and Evidence Based Programs are facilitated by trained leaders to help reduce falls risks, manage chronic health conditions, and improve health outcomes. Format is typically small group, multi-week class series, held in-person or online. Current programming includes such courses as as “Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention” and “A Matter of Balance.”

Elder Abuse Prevention and Awareness Resources, information, and proactive solutions are made
available for individuals and families that have concern for their safety and well-being. Training is also
available to businesses to help employees recognize potential physical, mental, or financial exploitation and
tips on how to respond.

Older Worker Employment Program provides an array of employment and supportive services to
those age 55 and older with a disability who have an open case with Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation.
