Job Description

The Fabricator will be a vital member at one of our Alaskan processing facilities, responsible for constructing, repairing, and maintaining critical equipment through advanced welding and fabrication techniques. This role demands a high level of precision, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in metalworking, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to effectively interpret blueprints and specifications. 

Essential Functions/Qualifications  

The responsibilities of the position include the following:  

  • Cut, join, and shape metals using various welding techniques (e.g., arc, gas, brazing). 
  • Fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, and generators. 
  • Maintain equipment in a safe and operational condition. 
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan layout and procedures. 
  • Take or read measurements to ensure accuracy and precision. 
  • Prepare metal surfaces for welding using grinders and other tools. 
  • Perform finishing tasks such as grinding and polishing. 
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures for defects. 
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and safety regulations. 
  • Participate in administrative activities related to department operations. 
  • Assist with inventory management and equipment maintenance.

  • Welding Techniques: Proficiency in various welding processes, such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding. 
  • Fabrication Skills: Ability to use cutting, bending, forming, and assembling techniques to create metal components. 
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. 
  • Measurement and Layout: Accurate measurement and layout skills to ensure precise fabrication. 
  • Equipment Operation: Proficiency in operating welding equipment, cutting tools, and other machinery. 
  • Safety Practices: Adherence to safety regulations and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries. 
  • Quality Control: Ability to inspect and ensure the quality of finished products.  

Interpersonal  

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve problems related to welding or fabrication processes. 
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and precision in work. 
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment. 
  • Communication: Clear and effective communication with supervisors, coworkers, and customers. 
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing work conditions and priorities. 
  • Dependability: Reliability and consistency in performing duties and responsibilities. 

Education and Experience  

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required.  
  • One year certificate from college or technical school preferred. 
  • 6-12 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Previous experience in Seafood or Manufacturing  
  • Proven experience as a welder, specifically food grade welding procedures and compliance measures. 
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG, etc.). Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing/equipment.  

Work Environment and Schedule  

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is loud. Position requires onsite presence at one of our Alaska processing facilities, and the ability to travel, including at times to remote locations. Physical Demands 

While performing the essential function and job duties associated with the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
