About the Job



This position provides an opportunity to be part of a research team. With guidance from the PI or other lab staff, this position performs work in a research laboratory involving methods, protocols, and techniques for collection of specimens from research studies for measurement of medications in biological samples to ensure that all data analyses are done appropriately and timely.
75% laboratory analyst:
Perform drug concentration measurements on human and animal samples and/or pharmaceutical solutions
Develop research methods, troubleshoot experimental anomalies, and prepare laboratory protocols
Creation and maintenance of laboratory result database for all samples (includes results from external and internal laboratories) and study procedures
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot instruments within the laboratory
Maintain overall maintenance logs for equipment and quality control logs for all assays
15% Lab management:
Book/record keeping
Sample/chemical inventory
General organization, maintain compliance for lab inspections
Monitoring of lab stock solutions and general supplies
Perform weekly checks of freezers, fume/biosafety hoods, eye washes
Oversight of all equipment in the laboratory
10% Laboratory team responsibilities
Attend and participate in laboratory meetings
Summarize research results and prepare reports
Participate in various trainings necessary for safely working in a laboratory environment
Perform other duties as required
*Work for this position is conducted mostly in a laboratory setting on the Twin Cities UMN campus.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications:
-BS/BA in chemistry or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 4 years
-Attention to detail, experimental accuracy and precision for all analyses
-A working knowledge of HPLC, LCMS or LCMSMS
Preferred Qualification:
-A minor in mathematics, statistics, pharmacology, or neuroscience can be beneficial to the individual in this position.
-Other beneficial experience includes: DNA isolation techniques, past work in a specimen oriented laboratory, working with animals, and working in a team atmosphere.
