Job Description
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform general maintenance on all airport facilities, runways, taxiways, landscaping and equipment at the Valdosta Regional Airport.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Maintains all landscaping as defined by management primarily around terminal area, to include trimming, watering, pine straw, mulch, planting, edging, weeding and spraying.
Mows all grass around the hangars, terminal, structures, and airfield as defined by supervisor.
Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance on air conditioning systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, roofs and mechanical systems.
Assist with maintaining airfield lighting, windsocks, safety areas, runways, taxiways, pavement markings and signs in a working order.
Performs runway, taxiway, fuel farm, construction zone, wildlife, and safety zone inspections in accordance with training and FAA regulations. Additionally, maintains the records of such inspections in a clean legible condition until which time it is turned in to appropriate supervisor.
Observes and reports any security infractions to appropriate supervisors.
Responsible for ensuring all safety regulations, safety precautions and airport safety rules are followed at all times.
Escorts personnel onto airfield, in secure areas, airport operations areas, and Security Identification Display Areas (SIDA) as needed for various airport functions.
Operate equipment to include but not limited to: zero turn lawn mowers, tractor, bat wing bush hog, edger, weed eater, trimmer, chain saw, lifts, back hoe, small hand tools, power tools, blower, pressure washer and four-wheeler.
Assist with maintaining all above mentioned equipment to include but not limited to: oil changes, small repairs, blade changes, greasing, tune-ups and tire pressures.
Checks gates and fencing to be operational and intact at all times. Repairs gates as necessary and clears obstacles from fencing. Ensures the complete security posture of the airport remains intact at all times or notifies appropriate personnel.
Pressure washing for all airport property and equipment as required.
Painting and touch up in addition to cleaning airport property.
Assist with tile and carpet repairs as needed.
Assist with changing light bulbs in all airport areas as well as repairs to lighting to include parking lot lights. Checks of lighting will be conducted on a regular basis.
Proper communications with the air traffic control tower will be observed at all times while on the air field. All communications will be in accordance with the local training and Federal Aviation Administration regulations.
Transportation Security Administration regulations will be followed at all times or disciplinary actions will be carried out by the airport as well as the Transportation Security Administration.
Wildlife harassment will be conducted to prevent injury to personnel or damage to equipment including aircraft. The airfield and airport property will be monitored regularly to ensure wildlife is not a problem, including birds. Any sighting of wildlife will be reported to supervisors and documented in the appropriate records.
Custodial work inside the airline passenger terminal will be required in some cases. Trash pickup in the parking lot and grounds to include the flower beds and pick up areas for the main terminal on a regular basis.
Employees in this position, under minimal supervision, perform a variety of custodial tasks in order to maintain selected buildings in a clean and safe condition including parking lot and building entryway. Clean, service and supply rest rooms. Sweep, vacuum and mop floors, shampoo carpets, wash walls and clean windows, some of which are at heights requiring a ladder. Dust and clean furniture. Gather and dispose of trash and waste materials by hand.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Operates a motor vehicle to conduct work activities.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED is required. A general maintenance background is essential. An electrical background is a plus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must pass a drug screening, a background investigation, a physical, as well as random drug screenings will be conducted.
