Individuals who hold underrepresented and/or marginalized identities, especially American Indian and other Indigenous people, are strongly encouraged to apply.
This is a faculty position. Job duties and responsibilities for this full time, tenure track position include teaching courses in a variety of areas in both BSW and MSW programs; advising students; conducting and publishing scholarly research; providing professional, community and university service; and mentoring and supervising students in social work field placements.
The start date of this position is August 19, 2024.
Qualifications
Required/Essential Qualifications:
Applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Social Work are required to have:
1. A PhD or Doctorate in Social Work or related field (e.g., Education, Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, American Indian Studies) completed by the start of the contract.
2. An active commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering socially just, culturally responsive, and antiracist practices in higher education, social work, or community settings.
3. A clearly articulated research agenda.
4. A Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited or ISWDRES-approved program and eligibility for Social Work licensure in Minnesota.
Applicants for the position of Associate Professor must meet the requirements above and possess a distinguished record of academic achievement (scholarly research or other creative work, teaching, and service) that satisfies the criteria for Associate Professor status in the Department of Social Work at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Tenure is not automatically granted at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
a) Demonstrated teaching success at both the graduate and undergraduate level.
b) Strong experience, knowledge base and commitment to American Indian or other Indigenous people and communities through research, teaching, and/or service.
c) Evidence of strong communication skills.
d) Demonstrated success working effectively with culturally diverse students, colleagues, and communities, including intercultural communication skills, awareness of diverse cultural values and beliefs, and willingness to examine your own cultural biases.
e) Experience and interest in departmental administrative roles.
f) Two or more years post-MSW Social Work practice experience.
g) Demonstrated skills related to the development and implementation of on-line courses.
h) Demonstrated success such as in publishing, grant writing and/or presenting research
About the Department
is one of five departments in the College of Education and Human Service Professions. Meeting the needs of American Indian and rural communities has been central to the department since its inception. The BSW and MSW curricula emphasize social justice and culturally responsive practice. The MSW program follows an advanced generalist model with opportunities for clinical and macro practice. The Department of Social Work houses the , a national leader in improving American Indian child welfare practice. Our programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
