50% - Supervisory
Provides training experience for students as indicated
Provides daily direction to technical staff to accomplish work goals; coordinates schedules, assigns responsibilities, provides clear direction, sets priorities, coordinates work, builds in accountability and monitors progress. Removes obstacles and provides resources.
Created staff schedules
Handles competing demands and sometimes changing priorities.
Provides training experience for students as indicated.
Interviews, hires, orients and trains staff. Sets performance goals, provides feedback and coaching to meet those goals. Conducts performance evaluations. Trains staff as well as students. Develops staff skill levels.
Answers questions and explains procedures and equipment for technicians, interns, senior veterinary students and student technicians.
Assist manager with staffing issues or concerns.
oversee infectious disease control and sanitation activities to insure a consistently clean working environment.
Works with manager to resolve issues and problem solve operational issues
Writes SOP and policies for approval and editing by directors or managers

45% - Technician role
Assists Clinicians, clients and patients with admissions/discharges, assessment, work-up, etc., prepares large animal patients for a variety of veterinary medical procedures including radiographic, surgery, and therio prep, catherizations, venipunctures, vaccinations, foal and colic team assistance, administration of medications and treatments, preparation of pharmaceuticals,etc.
Administers medications, vaccinations, allergy testing and others as defined by the duty clinicians.
Must be able to restrain and handle large animals and/or assist with large animal restraint and handling.
Participate in the on call rotation schedule
Must be able to jog horses
Performs record-keeping tasks related to medical procedures, including recording of: procedures completed, supplies used, patient status, client communications, census information, etc.
Fill in open shifts
Anesthetize, monitor, and treat anesthesia patients (including equine, bovine, canine, feline, caprine/ovine and occasionally exotics) as needed.
Assures that all charges for treatments and supplies are correct and entered in the VMC system.

Qualifications



All required qualifications must be documented on application materials
Required Requirements
BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least 4 years.
Technical training (i.e. graduate of Animal Health/Veterinary Technician or equivalent program, and certified as MVMA/MAVT technician)
Supervisory experience within a veterinary care or similar health care related environment.
Knowledge of veterinary medicine terminology, knowledge of proper restraint and handling of animals.
Computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheets and data entry.
Working knowledge of equipment used in a veterinary teaching hospital.
Thorough working knowledge of equipment used within an area of specialization.
Project management and meeting management skills.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
2 years of supervisory experience within a veterinary care or similar health care related environment

The Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) has served the community for more than a century. It is the most advanced, full-service referral care center for large and small animals in Minnesota. The VMC sees more than 35,000 cases annually, with specialists available in all areas of medicine and surgery. More than 50 of the veterinarians on staff have undergone several years of additional training to become board-certified specialists in a particular area of veterinary medicine. The Veterinary Medical Center is comprised of the Small Animal Hospital for dogs, cats, and other companion animals, the Piper Clinic at the new Leatherdale Equine Center, for horses, and the Large Animal Hospital, which treats farm animals, and occasionally, zoo animals.
