The Georgia Department of Agriculture Office of Weights and Measures is seeking an individual to serve as a Weights and Measures Large Capacity Inspector.

Job Duties:
· Enforcing the Georgia Weights and Measures Law and related regulations
· Testing, inspecting, and determining the accuracy of weighing and measuring devices used commercially in Georgia including vehicle scales, livestock scales, hopper scales, warehouse scales, and forklift scales.
· Investigating related consumer complaints.
· Completing documentation of activities and preparing investigative summaries as needed.
Job Summary:
· Inspect and test the accuracy of large capacity scales such as Vehicle scales and livestock scales.
· Operate test equipment associated with the test unit.
· Drive scale test unit to inspection sites.
The selected applicant must reside in or be willing to relocate within a reasonable distance of the assigned territory and be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
This position requires occasional overnight travel.
Preferred Education and Experience:
· General knowledge of computers w/ Excel and Word
· A Valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is strongly preferred; however, if the selected candidate does not hold one, then they must be able to obtain one within six months of employment.
· Must have excellent customer service skills and exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
· Ability to operate assigned equipment proficiently and safely and have basic mechanical aptitude and mathematical ability.
· Effective organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently.
· Proficiency with standard office software applications is required.
· Applicants must have the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. on an occasional basis, bend as needed, distinguish colors exhibit manual dexterity, and be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Essential Functions:
· Maintain Vehicle and all associated equipment.
· Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
· Have CDLs or be able to obtain them in a prescribed time.
· Overnight travel
· Two-person team
· Standing for long periods, intermittent periods of walking, squatting, kneeling, or driving
· Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. for short periods.
· Price Verification Inspection: Confirming multiple items marked price with scanner price.
A valid Georgia commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred; however, if the selected candidate does not have a CDL they must have a valid Georgia driver’s license and be willing to obtain a CDL within six months of employment. DOA will pay any fees associated with the new license.
· Must have a clean driving record.
· Must have communication and customer service skills.
· Maintain State vehicles and all equipment for the job.
· Be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
· General knowledge of the window operating system and basic computer skills
· Basic mathematical skills
