Description

EnviroScience is looking to hire a full time, bat ecologist to support our growing Natural Resources Practice Area. The position will preferably be based out of one of our offices, however, there is a possibility for this to be a remote position based on location and candidate qualifications. Salary will vary based on education, knowledge, and relevant professional experience.

This position will best fit someone who can work independently and successfully manage multiple tasks, exhibits scientific writing skills, and has experience and a background in bat presence/absence surveys following state and federal guidance. The successful candidate should possess demonstrated ability as a qualitative bat expert with experience completing mist-net surveys, a USFWS collectors permit, experience completing bat acoustic surveys, experience qualitatively identifying federally-listed and candidate bat species such as the Indiana bat, northern long-eared bat, tri-colored bat, and little brown bat. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and completing bat and other wildlife related studies, including, habitat assessments for rare species and preparing/reviewing technical reports of survey results.

Responsibilities include:

* Lead field crews conducting threatened and endangered bat species presence/absence surveys using approved USFWS methods including mist netting and acoustics

* Lead field crews conducting field investigations such as threatened and endangered species habitat assessments

* Analyze acoustic data using bat call analysis software (e.g., Kaleidoscope)

* Conducting work year-round in adverse weather and rough terrain

* Independently preparing technical reports and permit documents, and maintaining excellent communication with project managers, clients, employees, and subcontractors

* Ability to support client and agency permitting needs during all project processes

* Other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications

Other qualifications include:

* B.S./B.A. degree in biological science, environmental science or related field of study. Master's degree or equivalent experience strongly preferred.

* 5+ years relevant field experience

* Valid federal permit for Indiana, gray, Virginia big-eared and/or northern long-eared bats preferred

* Experience coordinating with state and federal agencies regarding threatened and endangered species

* Experience with technical report writing and agency coordination

* This position will require a long-term field deployment and frequent long-distance travel

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently

Additional Beneficial Skills:

* Experience conducting wetland assessments/delineations, stream assessments, terrestrial surveys, and wetland functional assessments

* Additional background in fisheries, endangered species, herpetology, or amphibians

* Pre-exposure rabies vaccinations and recent titer check preferred but not required
