Department: Proton Beam

Pay Range: $23.00 - $32.20

The Medical Physics group at McLaren Proton Therapy Center (MPTC) is responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of medical treatments. This includes machine quality assurance, patient quality assurance, treatment planning, clinical support, and radiation safety. The cancer center in Flint is equipped with two Varian linear accelerators, an HDR unit, two Phillips CTs, and a proton therapy machine. MPTC is one of the state-of-the-art proton therapy centers in the State of Michigan.

 

As a Medical Physicist Assistant (MPA), you will play a crucial role in the physics group at MPTC. Your responsibilities will include performing measurements and data analyses, creating supporting documentation, and engaging in quality assurance. Your contributions will be instrumental in maintaining our group's high standards.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

- Performing patient-specific quality assurance (QA), including validation of patients' dose distributions and beam output measurements.

- Performing monthly and annual machine QA under the supervision of a board-certified medical physicist.

- Assisting medical physicists in commissioning and acceptance testing of all new equipment.

- Documenting QA procedures.

- Ensuring up-to-date calibrations on all survey and dosimetry equipment as instructed.

- Participating in data entry and submission of dosimetry data for clinical trials and registries.

- Managing QA equipment.

- Helping the Radiation Safety Officer monitor the staff's radiation badge.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, or applied science

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in physics, engineering, or applied science
