This announcement will be used to fill one (1) temporary full-time General Repair Worker position at the Minnesota Veterans Home-Silver Bay. This position is initially eligible for full employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits.

This position is expected to last one (1) year.

This position performs routine maintenance tasks and services as a part of the maintenance team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: making repairs to plumbing, furniture and equipment; grounds keeping, lawn care, landscaping, painting, and snow removal; ordering materials as needed; and assisting with the work order system.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • General methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.

  • Occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties

Ability to:

  • Safely use hand and power tools

  • Safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other grounds and maintenance equipment

  • Follow instructions

  • Provide work instructions to unskilled helpers

AND

  • Valid Class D Driver´s License

Additional Requirements

This position requires successful completion of the following:

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check

  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment

  • Finalists will be required to pass a drivers license background check

  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
