About the Job



80% Performing peptide and small molecule solid-phase organic synthesis including HF cleavage reactions. Performing RP-HPLC purification and analytical characterizations including analytical RP-HPLC and HR-Mass Spec analysis.
10% Lab Management: Ordering supplies and chemicals, book/record keeping, chemical inventory, general organization, prepare for laboratory inspections, check that all lab stock solutions and general supplies are available, organize lab parties and gatherings. Performing weekly checks of equipment as well as freezers and oversight of other equipment in the laboratory. Additional duties include attending meetings as requested.
10% Assisting in the writing of technical reports and articles for publication. Keeping appropriate laboratory records, detailed record keeping with weekly updates, preparation of reports, presenting results, and working with technicians, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows; review literature as assigned.
Salary range- $35,000- $40,000; depending on qualifications, skills, and experience

Qualifications



Required qualifications: (Must be documented)
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related Organic synthesis field. Undergraduate course work will have included General and Organic Chemistry with laboratory components and experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as computer literacy (proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
Ability to work independently, reliable and self-motivated.
Ability to meet deadlines and work in a high-paced environment.
Attentiveness to details, highly organized and initiative driven, excellent organization and communication skills are essential.
Preferred qualifications:
Laboratory experience performing solid phase synthesis (SPS) and RP-HPLC purification.

The Medicinal Chemistry department consists of a diverse group of faculty members, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and research scientists working at the interface of chemistry and biology and is home to the editorial offices of the and.
The department is part of the College of Pharmacy and University health sciences, which house nationally and internationally acclaimed programs in the areas of biochemistry, neuroscience, pharmacology, virology, immunology, cancer biology, structural biology, and drug delivery.
Medicinal Chemistry is a dynamic, multifaceted scientific discipline that is dedicated to the improvement of human health through research that leads to the design and development of safe and effective therapeutic, diagnostic, and environmental agents.
The Graduate Program has been awarding PhD degrees to students for over seventy-five years. The program has a long and distinguished history of being among the top medicinal chemistry programs in the country.
