The Design Engineer is responsible for performing calculations, developing designs, technically supporting customers as well as outside vendors for new projects for Pelletizers, Pulverizers, Polymer/Extrusion pump systems, Screen changer systems, water baths, air-knives etc. utilizing the SAP MRP System and associated programs. The Design Engineer will review project specifications, develop solutions, create drawings for customer approval and support, create bills of materials and support the Project Coordinators through project completion. On time performance of the above is crucial. Travel may be required to support sales personnel and aid in resolving customer process or performance issues.

What You'll Do:

Primary

Support the entire project, beginning with the project hand off from the Sales Team Member and ending with the shipment of the complete system, which consists of the following:
Interface with Applications and Sales Personnel to ensure successful implementation of applicable designs.
Work with customers during the design and drawing approval process.
Create drawing numbers in the NOLOG System, Create part numbers and Bills of Materials in the SAP MRP system.
Perform required mechanical calculations to properly size the equipment for the specific requirements.
Design of complete system assemblies utilizing Autodesk Inventor and/or Solid Works 3D CAD programs, complete with Bills of Materials within the specified lead time achieving on time delivery.
Create sub-assembly and manufacturing drawings for the system components.
Coordinate component procurement with purchasing to ensure timely delivery of critical components.
Maintain expert level of product knowledge and applications.
Extensive interaction with customers, partners and teams via phone, email, MS Teams,
Occasional travel in support of training and customer requirements and support (5-10%)
Listen, understand and convey customer requirements.
Strive to develop collaborative relationship with piers at other Maag locations
Other tasks as assigned by Director of Operations
Support assembly teams by resolving any unforeseen issues during the assembly process.

Maintain professional business relationships with target or assigned accounts
Provide status of ongoing projects and future projects
Participate in weekly scheduled project management and engineering team meetings

Work Environment

Work in this position is both in an office and a production plant environment, either locally or at a customer site. While performing the duties of this job in a plant setting, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, hot equipment, hot and cold weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud and PPE may be required.

What You'll Bring:

Education

Required

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or an Associate Degree in Engineering with 5 years of relevant work experience in a technical discipline in lieu of a four-year degree

Preferred, but not required

College graduate with Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering degree
Training on logic circuits, electric motors, gears / mechanical devices

Professional Experience

Required

Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a Design/Project Engineering Role
Project Management experience
Experience in the use of CAD software, Inventor and/or Solidworks; a must
Experience developing bill of materials
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred, but not required

Familiarity with SAP MRP System
Mechanical or electrical design background
Proficiency with CRM/Database tools
Proven project management skills
Understanding of pricing strategies
Familiar with large rotating equipment
