Order#: NY1495555 Software Engineering Manager I/II - Application Role Overview As a Software Engineering Manager I/II - Data at Measures for Justice, you will support a team of engineers working across critical initiatives. In collaboration with your team, you will craft development processes, initiative roadmaps, design proposals and technical implementations. Your leadership will ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable software, including for our flagship product, Commons. As a manager in data engineering, you will collaborate heavily with our criminology research team. You will help craft tools and processes for managing, cleaning, and standardizing data we receive from criminal justice agencies. Our data engineering tech stack includes R, SQL, Kotlin, GitHub Actions, Docker, Kubernetes, Postgres, and AWS. Key Responsibilities Provide personnel management and coaching to engineers of varying skill levels Collaborate with senior engineers to craft initiative design proposals and technical implementations Lead across initiatives by monitoring initiative health, assisting with or escalating blockers, and advising on staffing Own systems shared across initiatives by curating roadmaps, prioritizing backlogs, and overseeing the release of new code Foster a growth culture by encouraging challenging work, peer feedback, development, and recognition Cultivate strong cross-functional collaboration and communication between engineering and other teams (e.g. IT, QA, product strategy, research) Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging by modeling inclusive behaviors and proactively managing bias Your Experience Proven expertise managing or coaching software engineers with varying skill levels Deep knowledge of software development methodologies and best practices Proficient working with data research and infrastructure technologies, specifically most of these technologies: R, SQL, Kotlin, GitHub Actions, Docker, Kubernetes, Postgres, and AWS Experience guiding and shaping software initiatives undertaken by fellow engineers Proven track record of actively seeking and implementing improvements to enhance team performance and efficiency Deep experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to successfully and efficiently deliver a product Bonus Points Experience assisting in the recruitment process to hire engineers for the team Demonstrated interest in the criminal justice system or civic technology If you do not have the skills/experience mentioned in the bonus points section, we still encourage you to apply!
