Job Description:
CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANT


Summary:

Perform office duties related to the replacement of the gas system including permit applications, customer notifications, paperwork and contractor invoicing, monitors work progress and schedules and communicates with internal customers to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.



Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Receives invoices from contractors, obtains approval from supervisor and releases Purchase Order for payment insuring accuracy



Performs various clerical duties including data entry, office supply ordering and inventory control, mail distribution, office equipment maintenance, record keeping and filing to support department and division business objectives



Assists Construction Inspectors in paperwork including locating sewer lateral verification



Works with Permit Department to file for mechanical permits when necessary



Assists Scheduler/Routers in written notification of upcoming projects to our customers



Process expense reports for Inspector group



Education:

Requires two years post secondary education in business administration or a combination of education and related experience providing equivalent competencies.





Experience:

Requires two years of progressively responsible customer service experience that includes the use of required mainframe and PC computer systems.



Additional Knowledge, Skills, Licenses/Certifications, Abilities & Personal Characteristics (KSLAPs):

Able to meet and maintain performance and attendance criteria for the job.



Able to demonstrate working knowledge of natural gas distribution system operations and installation procedures or the ability to learn in a short period of time.



Able to learn and interpret applicable codes, standards and regulation related to gas distribution facilities installation



Able to demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills.



Able to demonstrate proficiency in PC and mainframe computer systems including SAP and Mobile Data.



Able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.



Able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.



Able to demonstrate average data entry proficiency.



Able to work in a team-oriented environment.



Able to demonstrate strong customer service skills.



Able to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings and maps.



Able to demonstrate basic mathematics skills.



Able to achieve and maintain department standards for accuracy and productivity.



Able to meet all physical requirements, competency-based assessments, pre-employment background checks, pre-employment drug screen and other selection criteria determined by the Company.



Physical Requirements:



Able to sit for long periods of time.



Able to hear oral communication either in person or on equipment such as telephone or mobile phone.



Able to operator a personal computer, either laptop or desktop.



Able to operate office machines, including telephone, photocopier, fax machine, calculator.



Working Conditions:



Able to work extended hours or weekends as required.
