The Allen School occupies two spectacular buildings — the Paul G. Allen Center and the adjacent Bill & Melinda Gates Center — located at the heart of the UW campus in Seattle. The Allen School has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director of Advising. The Assistant Director for Advising is responsible for the overall management of advising services as well as many aspects of the first-year experience in the Allen School. They, along with their team of eight advisers and an advising assistant, provide direct advising services for all 2100+ Allen School undergraduate students from their first year through to graduation. Important aspects of the work include developmental, learning-centered advising, attention to detail, and frequent contact with the University's administrative system. Beyond the interpersonal one on one student work associated with this position, it also provides broader leadership and direction for supporting students throughout their experience in the Allen School and mentoring their staff. The AD will provide direct supervision of three employees and mentorship/guidance for an advising staff of 9 with a wide range of experience levels. In collaboration with the Director of Undergraduate Student Services, frequently involved in high-level decision-making around programs, policies and procedures that impact the Allen School undergraduate student population. The AD position involves substantial collaboration and coordination with various academic and administrative units on campus, in other institutions, and in the community. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Planning & Leadership Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct Advising & Student Support - Preparing reports on student progress for the Retention Committee. - Establishing communication needed to both faculty and students with outcomes of committee meetings. - Following up with Escalated Probation cases. - Compiling data for outreach to Students of Concern. - Managing advising feedback on Students of Concern to ascertain patterns/themes to report up to the Director of Student Services and Undergraduate Program Faculty Chair. - Co-managing the Enrollment Criteria Petition process with Lead Advisers. - Monitor UW Graduation requirements and criteria to ensure proper training of advising staff and policy development to ensure student compliance. Consult with Faculty on individual student cases and provide support and recommended pathways forward. When short-staffed or during busy times, this position will support the advising team and reduce impact to students by: - Responding to student questions via various messaging mediums, taking student appointments, and hosting various student presentations. Faculty Consultation and Assessment - Student Issues Programmatic Responsibilities Communicate across the team and to the student population any curriculum changes that could affect them. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
