Autism Resource Specialist

LOCATION

Special Education Supervisors, Special Education Director
POSITION INFORMATION:

Autism Resource Specialists in ISD 742 support special education teams with program development and implementation for students identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Developmental Cognitive Disabilities. They provide curricular resources, programming consultation, assessment support, and professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

Current Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) teaching license issued by the MN Department of Education

A minimum of five years experience working directly with students with ASD

Ability to develop and effectively implement instructional strategies which meet educational needs of students with ASD

Knowledge of the identification/ evaluation process and Minnesota ASD criteria and eligibility

Knowledge of the Functional Behavioral Assessment process and positive behavioral interventions for students with ASD

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with families, school staff, and community agencies
Essential Duties:

Educate and collaborate with ASD instructional and support staff to create safe and respectful learning environments

Collaborate with instructional team members to ensure quality and coherent educational programs based on best practices

Coordinate district-wide efforts to develop the curricular, instructional and assessment practices of educators to better serve students with ASD

Complete assessments for initial evaluations for ASD

Secure a variety of curriculum and assessment tools to support the attainment of instructional goals for students across the range of ASD

Attend IEP, evaluation and other team meetings for students with Autism.

Assist with development of goals and instructional programming through consultation and support services

Provide assistance with Behavior Support Plans


Identify staff training needs, develop training schedules, identify trainers and set training objectives. Provide staff development to teachers, paraeducators, and related staff as requested.
