Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure track potential)

The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking candidates at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to contribute to the growth of our research program. Candidates’ research programs should be centered on advancing scientific knowledge about child and adolescent psychopathology and its consequences. We are also interested in candidates who address fundamental aspects of neurodevelopment, with expertise related to environmental programming, early developmental origins of disease, mood and anxiety disorders, intervention trials, implementation science, and the use of digital technologies to address clinically important questions. The successful candidate will have current NIH grant funding and evidence of current or potential impact on their field of interest through publications and other significant contributions.

As one of only two independent medical school departments wholly dedicated to child and adolescent psychiatry in the nation, NYU Langone Health’s Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is at the forefront of change, transforming child and adolescent mental healthcare through innovative education, research, patient care, and community engagement. Comprised of over 100 clinicians, researchers, and educators, a substantial NIH funding portfolio, and more than 45k patient visits annually, our highly specialized team combines passion, purpose, and precision to support every child’s distinct strengths and challenges. Through leading-edge treatments, training, research, and technologies, we address the unmet and urgent mental health needs of children, families, and communities everywhere. 

Our Child and Adolescent Psychiatry research program spans basic science, clinical research, and population health. Our investigators collaborate with experts across NYU Langone and other institutions to study autism, depression, ADHD, anxiety and disruptive disorders, eating disorders, trauma, parent–child relationships, gender and sexuality, clinical effectiveness, and many other areas of psychiatry and psychology. The breadth of our research includes serving as primary recruitment sites for the NIH HEALthy Brains and Child Development (HBCD) national study and the NIH RECOVER COVID national pediatric study. We maintain a 73,000 SF state-of-the-art space in Midtown Manhattan that houses a fully equipped infant, child, and adolescent neurodevelopment lab, with a mock-MRI scanner, Hyperfine 64-militesla brain MRI system, two 128-channel EEG systems, TechEn wireless fNIRS system, EyeLink eye-tracking system, biosensors, multiple sound and audio recording interaction and interview rooms, and dedicated biospecimen processing space. We utilize two research-dedicated Siemens 3.0T Prisma scanners and one Siemens Vida scanner located within 10 minutes of our Midtown location. Our department prioritizes inclusivity, accessibility, and neurodiversity in research. Notably, the research and clinical enterprises of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry are co-located in the same space, facilitating significant clinical research collaboration and opportunities for translation and implementation science.

Our clinical programs provide services to children and families at multiple locations across New York City and the surrounding areas. In addition to the Child Study Center co-located with our primary research space in Midtown, we provide care at NYC Health Hospitals/Bellevue, the only public hospital in New York State with a child psychiatry emergency department. We provide services on-site at Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, New York, in schools and juvenile justice centers, and in child welfare settings. We also maintain a robust and growing child psychiatry telemedicine program, expanding our ability to provide care in rural communities.

Our educational programs include Child and Adolescent Mental Health Studies for NYU undergraduates and advanced training for medical, nursing, and social work students, including a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship and child and adolescent psychology fellowships, internships, and externships. Opportunities for teaching and developing novel curricula are available to all of our faculty members. Further, we proudly serve as a New York City Regional Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders, one of seven sites across the state to offer professional training to improve access to services and outcomes for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. We have a community-based webinar and workshop series that provides families, healthcare professionals, and educational professionals with information on the latest research and clinical approaches for various mental health and behavioral concerns. We maintain several internal programs for growth and development, including a facilitated dialogue series led by our departmental Anti-Racism Task Force. Overall, the Department’s commitment to an integrated approach to research, broad-reaching clinical services, training leaders in mental healthcare, and focus on self-growth define excellence in the field.

Salary Range: $110,000 – $175,000
